One leads a charmed life if hanging on the phone for an afternoon to get something fixed is the ultimate injustice.

It was just a PR product announcement and demo, people. Relax, sit down, have a sandwich, drink a class of milk, do some f-in’ thing, eh?

  • Are you on OSX 10.9.3? If so, revert to 10.9.2.

  • Actually, I have different theories than has be posited thus far:

    1) The US doesn’t compete well at the international level, so the interest in the sport domestically suffers. Nothing kills turnout like a losing team, and that’s what we have. (The reason for this, of course, is Title IX. While it has led to the success of the women’s soccer on the world stage, its implementation in colleges have limited the number of varsity-level clubs, thus choking off the men’s sport.)

    3) Flopping. <—- This is the main reason, I think. And it isn’t flopping, because that happens everywhere. You throw your hands up, fall down, and hope to draw the call. That’s part of a lot of sports. But in soccer, they don’t flop: They fake career ending injuries, then get up and sprint for the next hour. And it happens CONSTANTLY, making it impossible to watch. In a football game, a player goes down and the stadium goes silent. It’s a big deal. And if a player did what these soccer players do over, and over, and over, and over again, he would get booed to no end and pelted with whatever the fans have on hand.

I get what you’re saying, Bill. Not long ago no one would have spent the time, money and effort to put together something so silly. There also wouldn’t have been a good place to put it where anyone would see it.

Personally, it’s cringe-enducing. It’s just SO CHEESY! It’s almost embarrassing to watch. But give me a Saturday afternoon with some good friends and some top shelf stuff, and I’d have a blast doing something this ridiculous. You see a lot of this coming from college kids these days, and the cost isn’t just low, it’s zero in a lot of cases.

Truth is, it’s fun to let fly. I’m sure there were plenty of people talking about how terrible a lot of production will be when the cost of all this falls, and they are absolutely right. There is a lot of garbage out there, but that isn’t new, and doesn’t even need to be cheap (Batman Forever). Maybe one or two great ideas will come out of these absurd little videos, and we’re all better off for it.

But yeah. Hard to watch. Just saying.

    ^ Now that’s funny!

You have to give BMD credit. They are looking for holes left by some of the big players (Apple, RED) and getting aggressive. I may not be getting their stuff, but right now they seem to be putting themselves out there as a disruptive force, and that I like very much.

I think the comparisons to the iMacs are at least a bit off. For one, Xeons vs Haswells. Second, dual GPUs vs just one. And finally, has no one noticed the iMacs are made with NOTEBOOK graphics? (Please correct me if that last one doesn’t matter, but I have hard time imagining that.)

[Andrew Kimery] “I think you misunderstood something in the video. The RED Rocket card (in an enclosure connected via ThB) is allowing him to do all of that because it’s processing the RED footage. Before he enabled the RED Rocket card the computer couldn’t even playback the footage.”

Right! So… it works? I am reading a lot of ‘need’ when it comes to PCI slots, but I’m not seeing a lot of evidence other than the specs on the cable. I want to see a set-up the melts that sucka!! Here’s an example of a pretty powerful peripheral doing just fine with the TB limitations, so here’s a positive. I want a negative demonstration, too!

See, the Mac Pro is the next step up for me. As a tool, are those saying TB, no.. ThB (I do like that better) isn’t going to cut it, in the right? Will I have buyer’s remorse at year 2.5? Or will this work for me? Indications are I’ll be fine.
