is there an alternative to bitvice? what if youre using media 100 HD? i see an option when exporting you can set it to RGB 0-255. could you then use final cut pro’s compressor to get better results?

dang floh, you are too fast… i just figured it out and was going to retract my question… too late!
thanks

November 7, 2006 at 6:19 am in reply to: CBS evening news opener (how’d they do that?)ive been looking and looking for that magic button for quite some time now, and can’t find it. even tried the secret menu. nothing there 🙂 thanks for the great responses. ive never used particular in depth anyway, im fairly new to it and only have gotten as far as peders tutorials. sounds like some 101 stuff. good to know
so far everything pretty smooth, looking to see how i can make it “cooler”. only using one set of words right now for each cluster. need to figure out the random start in a composition particle. sounds exactly what im looking for . thanks

i never tried using HDSDI in FCP, but i did try using the RS422/HDSDI method in media100, and it works beautifully. are you using RS422? are you able to change your preroll time in FCP? i set mine to 1 second in M100. make sure youre not using firewire control

[CharlieX2] “just make a custom mpeg-2 setting in compressor with a 4:3 crop, also make sure to account for D1 pixels.”

October 13, 2006 at 6:11 pm in reply to: cause of monitors frying out on G4 with Media100 cardHi Laurie
believe it or not i experienced the EXACT same problem as you. On a single processor silver door 1.25 GHz power mac g4. We had two apple 17″ CRT displays hooked up to it. they displays were about 4 years old, and they used to be hooked up to a beige power mac G3. never once experienced a problem until we moved the system over to the G4.
we replaced the media100 card with a p6000 and used the factory ATI display card to drive both monitors, DVI-VGA, and ADC-VGA adapters were used. Within 6 months the left monitor started making snap noises and rescaling the picture until it finally went out. had the monitor repaired bcuz they matched and still looked cool. i cant remember what the repair shop told me the problem was, i assumed it was just from age, although we bought both monitors at the same time.
almost days after the first monitor went out, the second one started snapping too, eventually, both kept snapping until they both died from a big “BAM” of white smoke. we didnt bother with CRTs anymore after that at. The p6000 and the ATI card were the only cards in the G4.
this is the first ive heard anyone experiencing the same problem on the same exact computer. maybe its the ATI card. i dont think its media100 although coincidentally we both happened to have one in our systems.

just my two cents:
we own the recorder deck of the XDCAM and it is fantastic. even though most of the IT features arent available for immediate use in media 100, it is still a HD-SDI, RS-422 deck, which means no problems on the acquiring and mastering through SDI. the coolest part is that while you can still shuttle like you would a betacam, it just jumps to the timecodes you specify without rewinding or fast forwarding. i recommend still setting a 1 second pre-roll for media100 though, just to be safe.

[Floh] “What I would do is to Shut Down the RAID”
I have tried multiple times to shut down the raid controller through the RAID admin tools, nothing ever happens, just connection failure. I then unmounted the disks from the mac, and just following the instructions of holding down the power key for several seconds, but that doesnt do anything either. i would hold the power button down at the back of the unit forever and the system would just sit there. the only thing i can do is unplug the power cable from the power supplys. that doesnt sound like a good idea at all. but i cant get the unit to shut down.
[Floh] “You also could try connecting a Network cable to the lower network port just to see if it at least gets a network connection”
i do have network cables connected to both controllers, but nothing shows up as an IP adress or anything for the bottom one.
im feel better now thinking it may just be an easy hardware swap. hopefully

yes im sure of that. now i am beginning to get worried. as i entered raid admin it is telling me that drives 8-14 are empty?!?! i dont understand. all of my media is accesible. i dont feel as i have lost anything, but that could be the raid doing its job. the green lights on the right array on the hard disks are on green, and even light up blue when there is disk activity. but the right side VU LEDs dont go up and down, just the left. the green light at the bottom of the blue LED stack is on though…. anyways, i went back and started playing some legacy timelines, and sure enough, they started having the same probelm with the glitching. im almost positive its the RAID array noww, although media 100 did crash and display an unrecoverable error message: -19216, socket 0, file pktmgr, line 1013, hardware rev:21, and so on so on.
i am by no means a raid expert although i did set up this system initially and got it to work well after tweaking it a couple of times, like swapping card slots for HDX board and fibre channel in G5. but i dont havea clue what has changed. i have just posted up some screen grabs of the window inside RAID admin. if anyone could take a look and compare it to theirs i would really appreciate it. next i just have to speak to a raid expert to try and get my system back to its normal operating state without losing the data i have on all these disks!

i dont have any applecare for the xserve raid, so this is why im in the dark. i wil eventually have to have someone come out here and take a look at this, but i am just trying to troubleshoot and figure out what kind of problem im facing. thanks

all settings are the same for both arrays of the xserve, but what i dont understand is why wasnt there a problem on the digitize? in after effects, all video frames are present and RAM preview flawlessly. shouldnt there have been digitizing errors? and why is playback performance progressively getting worse over time? still have over 25% capacity left…
