export your video out of media 100 either by reference or self-contained, and bring it into either cleaner 6 or flip4mac. From either one of those programs you can export the desired size and aspect ratio.

unfortunately, not that i know of from the PD-150. It is anamorphically squeezed, so you need to”de-squeeze” by scale the image down to do so. If you had a media100 HD, it would be kind of easy, but not quick. Here’s a suggestion if your final output is on DVD: go ahead and digitize/edit in 16×9, and then when you are done you can export to DVD studio pro and instruct it to letterbox the image when played back on a 4:3 DVD player. This is definitely a plus since you would be pleasing the hell out of anyone who owns a 16:9 ratio TV set, while still being able to deliver a letterboxed, 4×3 image to everyone else. Your other option is to export your timeline piece to after effects, manually scale the image down and render the piece back into media 100 for playback/mastering. Hope this helps

in essence, would it just be better to take the vector art and create your own very large rasterized psd version of it? i should do a test unless someone beats me to it first

ive had this error when using the basic 3d function. if you are using basic 3d, try redoing what you did and convert your layer to a 3d layer and manipulate using transform. i could be way off on what youre problem is though…

February 17, 2006 at 9:06 pm in reply to: The need to render interlaced?

oh i always render out to the media100 codec, all i was getting at was that some NLEs can accept multiple codecs/file types and play them instantly, but the media100 is not. obviously have to render with fields and with a lower field dominance , has to be 720×486, broadcast safe colors (i think). if all these requirements are met, the file will just “pop” into the bin instantly. otherwise, there will be a nice long wait as you watch the file re-encode itself though the hardware.

interestingly enough, the newer version of media100 can play back in real time, instant import of animation files w/alpha, FCP DV files, legacy media100 clips, even mix SD 640×480 and 720×486 or HD clips in the same timeline. pretty impressive

i dont know how avids import media, but i edit on a media 100. one reason i have to render interlaced is so i can do a quick import into my NLE. if its not interlaced it will have to re-render upon import essentially doubling the time and steps it takes to get a rendered composition into the NLE.

thanks for all the input guys, i really appreciate it. I have rendered videos for watchout before, this isnt my first time. It IS however my first time without my trusty dual 2.5 powermac. The dimensions are 2290×1050 with blending. And motion JPEG compression is going to be fine, so i think a loopable 30-sec .mov on DVD will be fine.

What is your feedback on renderfarm, does it help workflow dramatically? will i gain a lot of time by setting up my machines? anything to watch out for? i asked earlier if i needed to have all the same plug-ins on all machines. What kind of renderfarm performace will i get out a dual 500mhz g4 powermac and a 1GHZ G4 powerbook while composing all my work on a 1.8 ghz imac G5?

now that has raised another question for me… how would i deliver to them my file if it was larger than 4GB? i couldnt format a firewire hard disk in FAT32 since it wont allow large filesizes. and im sure their PC with watchout on it does not have software that can read HFS formatted drives. the only way i can think of is to do a network transfer, but what if that is not an option?
