  • How to extend the bounding box from objects?

this is probably very simple, i just dont know how to do it. I have imported an eps file that i want to apply some trapcode filters on. The problem is the filters dont extend out beyond the boudaries of the logo. I tried drawing a big mask area around it but that didnt do anything. What do i need to do?

There’s a filter called Grow Bounds that will do what you want.
Or you could put your logo in a precomp and make the size of that comp bigger than the logo and apply your effect to the precomp.

It is an included filter. (With AE 6.5 at least…) I don’t know of a way to change it in Illustrator, precomping it should work if you don’t have Grow Bounds.

Create a rectangular path around your object in Illustrator, then select it and choose OBJECT > CROP AREA > MAKE. This will create space around the object. I recommend you make this standard practice and if you want your Illustrator layers to be cropped to their individual sizes you can always use the import COMPOSITION AS CROPPED LAYERS option.

Grow Bounds is okay but can be very slow at higher settings.
