Great info, we also just used the smooth cam plug in which seems to be a heavy render but I believe it’s actually coming from Motion not like a heavy FCP render which causes the shut down.

Power management? SMC? We certainly have the sleep turned off and all energy saver things turned to never

Wow, I had a bad feeling when I started thread this was a bigger problem than our two 8 cores. Is it only 8 cores, I realize mac books have had this problem but do the 4 core Mac pros have this problem too?

We are on conditioned power, we’ve gone straight into the wall, it doesn’t seem to be tempeture related, it happens first thing in the morning. It is certainly render related with FCP 6. We have another 8 core encoding with compressor and it never shuts down with heavy encoding. If it’s FCP 6 related why in the world is the entire computer shutting down?

The eclipse seems to be an incredible product so I guess at that price range you can configure each SDI out differently? can anyone confirm this?
— one as HD and the other as SD

One thing i noticed to my surprise with the decklink line of cards and multibridge it seems that you cannot configure the two SDI outs differently as you can with aja cards, one SDI out can be feeding an HD monitor the other can feed an SD monitor (downconverted) or in my case an SD scope for now.

Hope this helps, BTW I read these post’s thoroughly and I haven’t seen mention of this, I hope some tells me I missing something because the Decklink and Multibridge line is very strong otherwise

Thanks for all the feedback, after reading barefeats.com (great site!) and realizing I have some encoding to do I’m tempted to get an 8-core tower.

The question is are 8 cores stable?

We’ve been using SAN MP (software) for 4 years with 5 suites, easy to manage and setup.

hardware: lots of choices Rorke HDX2, Infortrend actually the same product. Xserve raid you don’t need to use the complex xSan but the hardware is good.

back to software I hear fiberjet is very good

We have six seats of San MP and we are capturing from 3 330’s thru the Sony f 30 deck (fam mode) with no problems.

Our San mp…is version 1.5.0 build 33…FCP is 5.1.2

Let us know if we can compare any other elements that might help you out

I have been told MetaSan is good as well, Jeff how many workstations editing have you set up? . How do you handle space quotas and permissions with MetaSan?

I have have an installation with at least 7 stations .

I also looked at the facilis system any thoughts
