We finally figured out our conforming issue….we added more ram to our G5’s 2.0’s and it changed things significantly. Going from 2 gigs to 4 gigs of ram changed our conform on a half hour show from 2 1/2 hours to 30 minutes and if we need to tweak something it does it even faster maybe 15 minutes, certainly worth the incredible quality and workflow. Now please keep in mind we are printing to tape via an aja Kona 2 card not back to a deck (f30) FAM mode via firewire.

At this time we are finding it necessary to conform when going back out to tape, it seems like its rendering. The timeline & media is native XD cam HD and now with the new drivers from aja for our kona 2 card which gets us out to tape with a SD downconvert seems to have some new settings that we’re trying, I’ll keep you posted.

There are so many different configurations ours is to deliver an SD version via our Kona 2 card and also a XD cam HD back to our XD cam HD (F30) deck via FAM mode.

We purchased 3 330’s and put HD lenses on them, we love the cameras and the pictures they make. The workkflow is the best part…. proxy footage for logging, saving days on the capture time. We found the conform and some labeling issues on clips to be the only real issues. Labeling the disc just takes time and needs to be done it’s basic housekeeping — just a bit more high tech. You need the clips to be labeled individually if you ever want to reconnect media. The conform was alot faster with dual 2.7’s 4 gigs of ram compared to a dual 2.o with 2 gigs of ram on the same project that we saw right away.

I posted earlier about settings with a Kona 2 card in the Kona forum with no response but I am testing some of the updated driver setting as we speak.

We’re on 1.1 XDCAM xfer software, that’s interesting I didn’t realize the xfer software would have to do with the conforming issue.

Nate to answer your question, one version needs to go to tape thru the Kona 2 card, downconverted to SD letterbox onto a digibeta, another version (HD. XD cam native) is going back to the XD cam HD deck, the F 30 via firewire in FAM mode.

Is the settings that are making the Kona 2 display video to a monitor and allowing us to go back to tape effecting the conform issue?

So just select edit to tape or render the timeline prior to selecting it, we tried the render to tape and seems like it still goes thru the conform process

Heres the catch, from what we can figure out you need to do the steps below prior to formatting the disc see below:

A brand new disc does not come formatted. The XDCAM HD formats a disc
when it is first inserted into the camera. In order to name the clips
(On page 24 of the camera menu) the “Prefix” and “Numeric” value must
be changed *prior* to inserting the disc. That way the prefix title
and clip numeric values will be set during formatting.

Alternate method: Before recording any footage!! Insert brand new
disc. Goto camera menu page 24 change “Prefix” and “Numeric” values.
Goto menu page 23 select “Quick Format”, then select “Yes”.

Thanks for the info we’ll give it a try, but for the record Sony told us it cannot be done this is why we didn’t look any further the two options they proposed didn’t actually label the clips, see below:

Sorry for my delay in responding to you.
Currently you can not disc label directly in the camera, however here are two other alternatives
Label the disc in PDZ-1 either before or after your shoot, following a format operation if before your shoot
Format the discs in the studio before you go out, right click on the Mounted disc under MY COMPUTER and Rename.
This can also be done on the MAC when you mount the disc.
Do a properties on the mounted image on the MAC desktop and type the name there.

We just bought two of the H1’s and so far we love the camera, our workflow is to shoot in HDV and edit in FCP in the DVC pro HD 100 format 1080i . It looks great. Do not edit in HDV unless you need to.

We have aja kona 2’s but the aja LHe card has all the right connectivity for you to get your HDV camera masters in if your using the sony m10u which works very well just not in 24f.
