In answer to that question, like I mentioned before goto the Canopus factory forum, you can reach it from: http://www.canopus.us you will have to register to access the whole forum list, then do a search in both the DVstorm and Premiere forums, keyword “limitations” to get an idea of how your workflow may go.
I personally use the DVstorm2 with Premiere 6.5 or Edius, with Ppro loaded, there was stuff that I wanted to usein Ppro that is limited by the Storm Ppro plugin so I use Ppro standalone with OHCI, everyone’s mileage varies, its best to read and/or post questions on the Canopus forums before jumping in. -
You might have to contact Canopus Sales about the upgrade to Storm2(was $149 without the hardware mpeg encoder), various items that aren’t listed on the website are sometimes available from Sales, only way to find out is to call, they have a number listed on the website: http://www.canopus.us
The Storm2 upgrade contains new filters including a improved white balance, new transistions like 3D PIP, new transistions for Xplode, DVcapture which gets rid of reference files and allows capturing up to 3 video streams at the same time(time saver with multi-cam shoots), a bunch of other things including the video out plugins for AFX, APS. -
From reading your posts you appear to have the original storm, if you haven’t upgraded to the Storm2 software you should(if its still available, you would have to check with Canopus Sales)to use Ppro, some have tried to run the orig storm with Ppro using the last upgrade to the storm1, they have had limited success, also from the description of the system you would need some upgrading to run Ppro, at least a 2.8-3gig processor and 1gig or more of memory, be aware that many people have had problems with the Ppro/storm2 combination even with canopus’s latest drivers(Canopus no longer supports the Storm except for maintaining the driver database last Storm2/Premiere pro plug-in was ver1.53 quite a while back), the best thing to do is go to the Canopus factory forums and go through the posts, there is also a procedure for installing the Storm drivers for Ppro in a sticky post at the top of the Storm forum in the RT section.

Premiere, etc output to DV(firewire) from there you can use a Converter DV->Analog or the DV->Analog passthrough on a DV camcorder, Canopus: http://www.canopus.us or ADStech: http://www.adstech.com both make various A/V->DV-A/v converters.

You would have to convert the VOB files to Mpeg2 to insure the proper header and use a third party plug-in for Premiere like https://www.mainconcept.com , or convert the files to AVI which are large.

SATA is about 45-48MB/s sustained data rate, even though 1394a is supposed to be 50MB/s, with overhead you are lucky to get a transfer at 40MB/s sustained if you have a late model F/W chipset.

I use a widescreen monitor, fed either with the third output of a Parhelia, or analog PassThrough on a DV device fed by firewire depending on the computer I’m using.

I should have said “Doesn’t Edit”, it will export a project to Divx if the codec is present.

Premiere doesn’t do Mpeg4/Divx, you will have to use something to convert to DV AVi
