If you are doing DV in Ppro 2, you need more than one drive or array, at least 2, 3 is even better, one for OS, APPs and housekeeping, another drive or array for source files, etc. the third for preview files, misc files, scratch disks for paint programs, etc, The faster processor speed is gravy when doing AFX projects, also aminimum of 2gigs memory

If you are using simo apps like Ppro, AFX, PS, etc its best to have as much memory as you can afford, a 3gig HT processor/2gig mem is ok with Ppro 1.5 but if you are running Ppro 2 say with the production studio and/or HDV a dual core processor/4gig mem is a good upgrade.

Why are you running anti-virius while editing? you should shut-down all non-essential TSRs, etc to free up processor cycles. -
You can try Morpheus https://www.morpheussoftware.net/ it can save as a AVI,
there is also Fantamorph https://www.fantamorph.com/ which will work with AVIs
then there is the freeware WinMorph at https://www.debugmode.com -

You have to use the video presets in Photoshop or import the files to Ppro and use the Interpret Footage command

One Hard Drive? One drive for Apps, one drive for Conformed audio, preview files, scratch disks, misc clips, one drive or array for video source files.

The setting is in the Camcorder VCR menus, usually “A/V to DV out” in this case set to ON, don’t have a tape in the camcorder, it will take precedence if you use the device control, there is usually no device control with a analog VCR so you have to start the analog vcr manually then likewise start the capture in the computer manually.

I take it didn’t do this before? If this is something new try recreating the plugin cache file(the preferences file), hold down the Shift key while starting Premiere, Release the key when the Select Initial Workspace window appears. you may have to redo custom preferences, disk locations, etc.

It would also be nice to know what version of Premiere?
