The best thing is to ask the person who is going to edit the QT what they perfer as a format, if they don’t have a choice you can use none or sometimes I use Planar RGB, don’t recompress as it can add artifacts and also keep the 720×480 with the .9 aspect ratio.

If you are working in DV AVI its best to export to the same, unless you need VFW, also don’t recompress.

Spend your money on a faster processor if thats what you want, there are only a few Effects and Transitions that use GPU processing, you can find them in the Effects folder under GPU Effects and the Transitions in the like folders, if you aren’t into gaming or animated high-end graphics, most mid-range video recommended cards will suffice.

I have no problems running Edius, Premiere 6.5 & Ppro 1.5 with the Video Collection on the same system with a Storm card for Edius & Premiere6.5 and running OHCI for Ppro, the problems start when you load the Canopus Ppro 1.5 drivers for the Storm, one advantage with this configuration is that the Ppro 1.5 is part of the video collection and you can get Photoshop and AFX video outputs from the Storm with Canopus plugins that have nothing to do with Ppro.

SP2 sometimes can leave a bad file in the temp directory it uses to expand the files, I did a clean install of XP Pro SP1 then SP2, then loaded the Production Studio, I couldn’t capture without sound problems, same happened in Scenalyzer, reformating the Raid that SP2 used to cache the temp files cleared the problem.

I’ve loaded Ppro2 on a few peoples machines(AMD X2) with Raid 0 without any problems, only had a problem on one of my own(AMD X2) and I suspect Microsloth, it was a clean install for everything, but I had sound stutter problems while capturing, also the same problem with Sceneanlyzer, more than likely it came from upgrading XP pro SP1 to SP2 and SP2 may have left a bad file on it as it loaded temp files on the clean Raid, when the Raid was reformated the problem left.

Only with the older Athlon xp processors, the newer AMD 64s, 64×2, and Opterons work fine.

It depends on the situation, in the past with a editing accelerator card I was able to do 3 realtime DV streams with a 2.8 processor, to get 5 DV RT streams I had to use a Raid 0 setup with the same processor, now I can do the same with a single SATA II drive, personally given a choice I would go with the HP because of more memory and faster processor, then add the extra drives needed for the OS/Apps and misc storage, if you get into HDV/HD later you can add a raid, (is the drive with the HP a SATA II?), in either case a more upscale Video card would be better, and replace the operating system with XP Pro($130 OEM) if its using MediaCenter Windows
