If you have a set-top player and a set-top burner, just use them to copy what you want via S-video, I use this method for simple DVD compulations.

To get a answer you should describe your delivery format for one, like Aanarav said not all stations want the same format, second: are you viewing your edits on a external calibrated video monitor before finalizing? you just have to touch up the Luma.

It could be a item like a printer monitor, network, PC health routine, etc. that polls the computer, some of these have been known to interupt and cycle steal

Yes, sometimes firewire devices work better if chained, sometimes hubed, you have to experiment, also if you have your cam connected when you are having problems, try disconnect it, is this a laptop or desktop with a onboard firewire?

You said you are using Hubs, have you tried daisey chaining the drives.
