    Hi everyone,

I have been editing using PP1.5 and capturing from miniDV cameras using firewire. No problems there. A new project is coming my way which is using a Sony 450 DVCAM unit to grab footage in stock interlaced PAL mode. Now, I’ll be given these DVCAM tapes to log and then ultimately capture.

What I’m trying to confirm is, seeing it is still “DV” can I simply hire a DSR 11 or 45, shove the tapes in, connect the firewire and then still grab all the footage losslessly via the firewire? I am under the impression that with the DVCAM medium it is not necessary to use a decklink or other type of capture card as these decks can still send the full video/audio signal down the firewire just like the miniDV cameras do.

Can someone who is using such a combination confirm this?

    Many thanks.

(My next step will most likely be DigiBeta which DOES mean I’ll need to get some sort of Decklink etc…but luckily that is still a fair bit off)
