You don’t need a quad core for DV, a 2.4ghz core 2 duo would work fine, if it would make your pricing better, I like to use a 3 disk setup, a small 80gig for OS, Apps and virtual memory, a medium sized one, 160-250gigs for preview files, temp files, audio files, still images, cache files, etc, and a large one, 500-750gig for just video files.

You didn’t mention what the speed of your laptop was, If its fast enough you maybe able to use a intermediate codec like Cineform, which might be better than offlining and matching GOP cuts.

Edius and Ppro work ok on the same computer using OHCI but not multitasking, but mixing hardware cards may cause some grief particularly if its a Storm card.

When you say true widescreen do you mean 720×576 1.4 or 1024×576 square?

If you want to scroll through the image use the Motion Controls under the Effects Tab, control image size with them, for further info see Motion Effect under the help index, another way is to use the titler software

You need to use something like Scenalyzer to capture with, you can use its options to stop after a given ammount of time without video, or use a stop timer setable under the capture menu, there is also a simple start/stop timer to capture from other inputs like digitized TV
