[vin2000] “where can i find my project settings??”
Did you use a preset or custom when you created the project, ex: NTSC DV Widescreen

  • [basspig] “But the files HDVsplit makes just import without much disc activity,”
I use HDV split files with no problems.
Usually “media pending” is a operation in progress, if something is caddywampus it idles forever, I’ve run across it a few times, in one case it involved external drives, two others involved the Media Cache location, another person redid their system and screwed the preferences disk settings.

Have you tried to recreate the Plug-in cache file??(know as Preference file in older premiere)

  • [Basspig] “there is an amber-colored graphic with “Media Pending””

Thats usually a sign that things aren’t all right with the disk setup, if you have external disks, one of them not being located properly in the preferences disk setup, same for a internal drive that may have changed or is getting full, also can occur across sequences with different clips used elsewhere.

Interesting, but there still is the same lack of information, you don’t say the source footage for your project, what your project settings are and system specs, good luck with your problem.

What was the source footage for your film, like NTSC DV avi at 29.97 fps, captured via firewire from my video cam and what project settings did you use

[Jim_Gunn] “That is nonsense. Mini-DV tapes are very robust and last a long time with almost zero care.”
There is a proper way to store tapes for long term storage, and you don’t leave them just lay around, you may have a benificial enviroment, not everyone does.
[Jim_Gunn]“Winding and rewinding tapes especially sounds like a bad idea.”
Probably because you don’t know anything about archieving mag tape, Long term storage can cause tape to stick together for various reasons, doing a re-tensioning cycle(3yrs or so) every so often can avoid this or detect problems starting before they get out of hand.
There is nothing wrong with making a backup copy and or working copy to disk, it is currently cheaper than tape copies(unless you use cheap tape), You can get 33-34 tapes on a 500gig drive which currently costs around $100

  • [faith5x5] ” I can output a DVI to HDMI signal to the monitor”
What are the specs of your laptop, playing back the timeline is different than just decoding a video file to play through your video card, I don’t believe the M15 has firewire passthrough for HDV.

[Jim_Gunn] “Why not just save the original mini-DV tapes?”
Unless tapes are stored under ideal conditions like cool, low humidity, in the proper orientation and go through a wind/rewind cycle every couple years they can have a short life expectency

[Numsen] “Record video with FRAPS -> .avi”

What format avi, avi is a generic term for many formats of mixed video and audio, if you don’t know the exact format use G-spot (free downloadable file identifier)

[Numsen] “Clip e.t.c in Premiere Pro 2.0 together with some .mp3”

Ppro 2 has problems with some formats with MP3 interleaved.
