If you are trying to edit and render Divx on the timeline, it doesn’t, Divx is only considered as a export type.
Best thing to do before trying to work with a particular format is to look in the help files for usuable file types.

Best thing to do is capture via a program like Scenalyzer:
https://www.scenalyzer.com/When capturing the data on the tape it is basically transfering to disk, nothing is changed except the wrapper which tells it is DV AVI and whether type 1 or 2, are you planning on doing your future editing in premiere, capture as type 2.
If you use Scenalyzer you don’t have to worry about things like time code and audio settings, when you have the video on the disk you can check each file and see what the audio setting is using a free program called G-spot, usually most sony cams have 12bit 32khz as default, if you wanted 16bit 48khz you have had to set it in the cams menu. -
The MoBo I recomended is a qualified BlackMagicDesign board for the intensity/intensity Pro, BMD recommends the S3 version, I recommend the DS3 version, the “D” standing for durable because it uses all solid capactors to further increase its reliability. The only thing is to use the recommended memory or better, for short term future proofing it will handle 1066 or 1333 quad conroe processors, the 45nm processors are another story they may present a problem for most current MoBos as there is no compatibility guarantee.

A reasonablely priced MoBo is the Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3, Rev 3.3 or higher, it will handle 1333mhz FSB Processors which are at good prices right now, you can get a 6750 core 2 duo 2.66ghz processor for under $200, the MoBo will handle DDR2 PC6400 memory, 2gigs can be had for under a $100, it pays to download a manual from gigabyte to get recommended memory, at least a 650w power supply, 3 hard drives, a small drive 80gig or so for O/S and apps, a medium sized drive 200-250gigs, for cache files, images, sound files, preview files, etc. and a large disk 500gigs or more for video source files, a Sata DVD burner, case with alot of ventilation & space for at least 6 drives for add-ons, ADStech Pyro firewire card, nvidia geforce 8600GT video card

Like I said in the previous post, right clik on the clip on the TL and select “scale to frame” and see if the black bar goes away, If not use Motion Control under the Effects tab, use the help function index to locate info on using it, you can use the same to enlarge the 4:3 letter boxed.

Some cams like the DVX100 just cropped the 4:3 footage to look like widescreen but it was just 4:3 footage that was reduced vertically to resemble widescreen so the canvas(Frame) was 720×480 and the image was 720×360 with black filling the other 120 vertical pixels on the top and bottom, the next version the DVX100a also cropped the image like above but used DSP to fill the frame to a full 720×480 but with anamorphic video(1.2 to 1) so the 720×480 image looked elongated vertically it also contained a widescreen ID bit so when fed to a WS TV it compensates and shows the video as widescreen, but cams that do this like the DVX100a, VX2000/2100, PD150/170, etc have poor vertical resolution, the sony cams have a bit better DSP so give a tad better widescreen, the best widescreen for these type cams is done with add-on anamorphic lenses like Century or Optex so you get full frame vertical resolution
In the case where you have a thin black line on the edge you can right clik on the offending clip and select “Scale To Frame Size” or if that doesn’t work you can select the Effects Control tab above the source monitor and apply the motion controls to modify the image to suit yourself.
