You want to resize from 853×480 to 720×480 without constraining proportions. That will squish the image horizontally, making it anamorphic.

On all computer DVD player software, the “Forced Activation” function is disabled to prevent undesired button activation from stray mouseovers. If correct operation of menus on computers is desired, then avoid using layered Photoshop menus.

We have a 1700 in our tape room and a 2600 in our HD edit room, and I don’t like them. They do have a pronounced green cast in the mid-tones (supposedly to make the flesh tones a bit nicer). The green cast is easily seen on a monochrome image. It’s almost impossible to use these monitors for color correcting.

Thanks for the info, Shane. As all of us here are still new to FCP, I haven’t yet explored Cinema Tools. But now is the time to learn especially since I still have the project on my machine.
I agree with you about not off-line editing on DV, but that’s the hand that was dealt to us. That’s why I am concentrating much of my current FCP research on how to solve the problems that arise.

I agree with Grinner about not reusing stock for a shoot. But let me elabotate a bit on your question.
Degaussing a videotape does not damage it. More likely the tape is being incompletely erased (high energy tape used for digital video formats is almost impossible to erase completely), and then the VTR rerecording the tape is not fully erasing using its own erase head. That results in damaged data, the bad frames you see.
People reuse DVCAM & Digi-Beta all the time with good results — just not for shoots or mastering purposes.

Leave one blank video track between your nest and the background. That will prevent the efx on your nested tracks from affecting the background track.

I believe Optibase still makes a Mac encoder board, but most MPEG-2 encoder boards are full size boards that don’t fit into the smaller machines.
