Embedded audio in the HDMI or SDI stream will play successfully if your monitor had audio capabilities. The only reason to use an audio disembedder is if your monitor does not have audio output.

I’m using the thunderbolt/mini-monitor on a PC. It works quite well. A few observations:
a-no audio output. need a disembedder.
b-works quite well with Avid Symphony, despite no audio when monitoring thru the mini-moitor
c-works well with Resolve, however, nVidia Quadro 4000 runs VERY hot -

Trying to open a ProRes file causes Resolve Lite to crash. Error says QTDecoder error. And I’m running the 7.7.3 version of QT.I uninstalled 9.1.4 and went back to 9.1.3.

The WHOLE philosophy is to AMA full length files, then CONSOLIDATE only the part of the clips that I want to be used. Thereby conserving disk space and render time.

sorry to laugh. Mostly because you’ve encountered the same issue I’ve had. Numerous postings on the Avid forum has yielded no joy. Media Composer/Symphony can’t even AMA its own DNxHD format without having problems, exactly as you’ve described. I went around with the good folks at Sound devices, for a while, but, it’s an Vvid problem that has yet to be fixed. -
I think a little care must be taken to assume Full Range is only for images imported as RGB.My experience has been that if I bring footage into Resolve with the auto setting….and that footage has super blacks and super whites, by the time I grade it in Resolve and export/import into Avid, I’ve inadvertently clipped the super values. Admittedly, there’s a lot of steps involved in this workflow that can result in clipped errors, but, after a lot of testing, I’ve concluded the safest practice is to i/o to Resolve with “Full Range” as the default option.

You can download a trial version of the Calibrated{Q} MXF codec. It will allow you to play about 50% of each the OPAtom files, via Quicktime, in the Avid media Files Folder.
