Try precomposing just your layer with the shadow vertices. Next, open up that precomp and go to Composition>>Pre-Render. If you’ve never pre-rendered before, what it does is render out the comp you’ve selected and then AE puts the resulting .mov in the place where the comp was originally. In this case, since you’re precomposing the layer with the shadow vertices and pre-rendering it, essentially you’re just rendering out that layer. I can’t guarantee this will work, but I’ve had success in similar situations to what you’re having.

You could right click in FCP and choose Composite Mode and then Screen to key out the black. The downside to using this technique would be if there is any black in your actual animation that will be keyed out as well. I’m assuming there isn’t any though, otherwise you would have ended up with that problem already since you’ve been doing keying on the file.

Sounds like Andrew Kramer’s Demon Face tutorial for After Effects would be what you’re looking for.

I think you’re overthinking this. Why not just create a solid and apply a mask to it to get a thin line running across your comp. Apply Stylize>>Motion Tile to it and set the width to like 800 or 1000, something like that. Make the layer 3D and rotate it on the Y axis to the angle you need. Now you can add a camera and fly along the line. You can put your pictures, video, and text along different points of the line.

December 11, 2008 at 9:49 pm in reply to: I want to import AE animation to Final Cut Pro – with Transparent BGDo what Dave said and don’t forget to delete your green solid from your timeline. Use the “Toggle Transparency Grid” (located in the Compostion window to the left of the “Active Camera” pulldown) to make sure it’s just transparent behind the transition you created. If you see the gray and white squares, that means it’s transparent behind your comp.

MPEG Streamclip will convert your .mov files to .avi. It’s free and works great with a Mac. It doesn’t do .wmv files though as far as I know.
You can download MPEG Streamclip at http://www.squared5.com

Add a camera into your comp and keyframe the z position at the beginning, move ahead in the timeline, and move your camera forward on the z axis until you see its position having the particles move past.
For example, at the beginning your z position is at -1867 (I think) if you use the 35mm preset on the camera. Keyframe that position at the beginning of the comp, move forward a couple seconds in the timeline and change the z position to 0. You’ll see you moved forward. Adjust as needed. Good luck!

Try Effect>>Transition>>Linear Wipe. You’ll have to adjust the angle but you should figure it out pretty quickly.
