Why not just make any changes you need to make in the HD project, render that out, then drop the rendered file into an SD comp and render that one out? Or, after you’ve rendered out the HD comp, export it for SD in Quicktime Pro or MPEG Streamclip.

I think I can see what you’re getting at here. Have you tried precomposing your 3 layers that form your rudimentary room and making that precomp a 3D layer, then put your sofa & characters layer in 3D space just a little (say 1 or 2 pixels) in front of the precomposed room layer?

Yes, pay attention to the tutorial where Andrew talks about time remapping with pixel motion. It creates new frames of video based on the frames before and after, rather than doing frame blending.

Open your precomposed grass blades comp. Go up to the menu bar and choose Composition>Pre-Render. In the Render Que, click Render and let AE render it out. It will automatically replace each instance of your precomp with the rendered out .mov.
Now, AE won’t have to do the calculations for the grass blades and it should speed things up considerably.

Apply Effects>>Simulation>>Foam to a solid layer and that will give you bubbles. From there it’s pretty much the same as a particle generator. Change the view in the Effects Control window to “Rendered” and bring down the production rate quite a bit. Around 0.05 will give you a few bubbles and you can adjust the physics accordingly.

Zaxwerks 3D Invigorator Pro is a plugin for AE that will allow you to bring in 3D models from other applications (including Maya) and rotate around them in 3D fashion.
