I’m trying to set up a title animation where the camera flies low over grass, stopping at each text layer which is sitting on/in the grass.

Right now I’ve got a pre-composed layer of grass blades, and I’ve stacked a ton of them in 3D space. So I’ve just done one title so far as a test and it is taking a lot to render all of this out.

Is there a way for me to avoid using a hundred layers of grass blades placed in 3D space, or is that really the best way to go about it?

Open your precomposed grass blades comp. Go up to the menu bar and choose Composition>Pre-Render. In the Render Que, click Render and let AE render it out. It will automatically replace each instance of your precomp with the rendered out .mov.

Now, AE won’t have to do the calculations for the grass blades and it should speed things up considerably.
