November 18, 2014 at 8:19 pm in reply to: Atomos ninja blade and the Sony ex-3,ex-1-r, pmw 320I have a Sony EX-3 and it does not have a HDMI port….so you might want to look at the Atomos Samurai Blade…it will work on all 3 cameras using the Hd/SDI port.

Also, take a look at the new upgraded Sennheiser EW 100 G3, that’s the G3… which is far better than the G2, which has less features .
I own 2 G3’s and love them as I have had no problems with them. I shoot alot of news and reality and the G3 has a better range, as in distance, and is “quiter” in the noise department as I use them on my EX-3….

I did do some testing…transcodeing a normal xdcam ex file into Pro Res High…and it was a very large file….but the video did look a little better plying back on QT7……

October 3, 2014 at 3:48 pm in reply to: New Sony Applications for XDCAM, XDCAM EX, RAW, SR and NXCAMThe reason I am asking about the Pro Res is that I am about to buy a Atomos Samurai
Blade recorder ( I can’t afford a new camera right now) ….so I can deliver Pro Res files to clients. But it dawned on me that the raw files will be at 35mbps…not the 100 or 150 mbps that the Atomos can put out…..so I assume there will be a difference. But will the transcode bump up the mbps rule?Am I right or wrong on this idea?

October 1, 2014 at 3:52 pm in reply to: New Sony Applications for XDCAM, XDCAM EX, RAW, SR and NXCAMHello Ian,
Last night and this morning I have messing around with the “new” program….and I have 2 questions:
1. on the MAC side, your saying that I can trans code a normal xdcam ex file into a Apple Pro Res file….any pro res file as in 442 or 444?
2. on the PC side, I trans code alott of files from raw xdcam into .MXF files for editors who use Adobe…I don’t see the .MXF extention in the transcode pull down memu…is it named something else?
also, a side note the first time I used the program on my MAC(2013 MBP, i-7, 8gig ram, 750GB drive)….the whole system locked up. I rebooted and now it works just fine.

For Atomos…you will need the Samurai as it has the HD/SDI input that the EX-3 has….I hope to get one around Christmas time…..then I will be complete and thats it for gear this year…….
