They are effects. Remove them from the effects tab.

How comes you can’t search across those fields? There’s a search feature in FCP.

If you want to tag, just use one of the custom columns for your tags, then search in that column only. You can even have the search results appear in a new bin.

Sounds like a job for filemaker?

I’d search for more info on Bob Loblaw’s Job Log Blog.

    (sorry, couldn’t help it.)

It depends on the speed of your drives. I personally use about 12 tops.

Time of day timecode is still timecode.

How does the drop occur? Is it at a timecode break? Or more intermittent? How much can you record before the drop occurs?

Have you ruled out the tape? That is – are you able to capture other tapes?

Also – is there any other device operating on your firewire bus?

And – one more idea – are your settings correct? That is, the proper easy setup for the footage (DV-NTSC, etc.)

  • Another possible gotcha – if a clip has no reel number, then fcp won’t consolidate it – it will keep the whole thing no matter what you tell it to do.

Also, with a long, crazy timeline, corruption can be an issue. Have you tried pasting into a fresh sequence in a fresh project?

It’s pretty simple – use the SD Easy Setup of your choice (non-anamorphic, of course). Then cut your DVCPROHD footage into that sequence.

Choose “No” when asked if you want to conform the sequence to the footage settings. FCP will scale the DVCPROHD to fit the frame letterboxed.

You can then add your graphics wherever you want in the frame…

Gotta get that sequence size down. In my experience, over 100mb leads to increased instability.

If you can, break the segements into multiple projects.

Also – with projects that large, be sure that you’re not keeping too many copies in the vault – 128mb * saving every 15 mins can really fill a drive quickly.

    I think you’re overthinking this.

Drop a shot from you camera into a sequence – FCP will conform the sequence settings to your footage.

    Broadband – High?

Personally, I always use medium. But I’m never having clients use this to judge the visual quality – which you can’t really do on any web video anyway.
