Tiny question about autosave that’s always bugged me:

Is it normal for autosave to take longer and longer to save a project as it gets bigger?

I’ve seen it take several minutes in the past with monstrous projects, but the current project I’m working on is just sequences of unedited raw footage with several hundred subtitles on them, all around 40 minutes or less for each tape. The project is currently 127MB, but the autosave is taking longer and longer, even though we only open one sequence at a time. We haven’t been religiously turning off the sequence’s audio waveforms after finishing subtitling and closing the sequence, could that be dragging it down?

Is there anything I can do to speed the autosave back up, or is the slowing down just a fact of life?

Gotta get that sequence size down. In my experience, over 100mb leads to increased instability.

If you can, break the segements into multiple projects.

Also – with projects that large, be sure that you’re not keeping too many copies in the vault – 128mb * saving every 15 mins can really fill a drive quickly.

    Thanks Bill!

I’ll see about breaking it into several projects and decreasing the frequency and amount of autosaves. Right now we have it saving every 5 minutes (paranoid much? 😉 ) and keeping a max of 40 copies per project.
