DVCPRO HD to SD
We are shooting footage in DVCPRO HD. The final output will be 4:3 letter boxed, however my boss want to be able to put graphics on the letter box. Could some one give me a step by step process on how I should accomplish this? I get a little confused when I have to deal with a format I’m not accustomed to like DVCPRO HD and I’ve never had to edit HD footage into a SD final product..

When you put 16×9 HD footage into a 4×3 sequence, it letterboxes automatically and the letterbox area is live and can take graphics or whatever. Note you may need a field shift filter if FCP doesn’t put it on, and you should set your video processing for High precision YUV set to best.

It’s pretty simple – use the SD Easy Setup of your choice (non-anamorphic, of course). Then cut your DVCPROHD footage into that sequence.
Choose “No” when asked if you want to conform the sequence to the footage settings. FCP will scale the DVCPROHD to fit the frame letterboxed.
You can then add your graphics wherever you want in the frame…
