I know this, because I can export a file from MPEG Streamclip that plays fine, but I tell it to interlace. All the rest of the settings are the same in Compressor, but this one is lacking.

I know FCP and compressor were a little tricky to get the 8 cores all working, but with new version of FCP, I think they fixed all that…

It has a built it “Clips” bin, that plays video straight from the file. I just copy the file to the drive.

I use an hvx200 at my ‘REAL” job, so that’s prob what I will go with.

I created an h.264 file and named it .flv, and it plays, but the player buffers the whole file before playing… It doesn’t stream… Am I missing something?

Mu files will be rather large, so this won’t work…

I have a new Dual quad core Intel Zeon Machine with OS X 10.5.6. Has 4 Gb memory and about a terabyte in space between two drives. One is system drive, the other is Media/Scratch drive (bigger one).

IN FCP, I am using the NTSC DV Compression and like on all my footage. After editing, I do a Export to Compressor, and it opens in compressor as usual (have also tried exporting a self contained file with better results). I add a preset for Ipod (h.264 at 640X480, 4:3, at 1.5 mbps). I also usually add a DVD preset as well… change destination to local media drive, and submit.

Hours later I have a product.

I found that I can use a cluster to use more processors (only if export self contained file), but this doesn’t seem to help…

More info? I’d love to see anyone’s complete analog component to Podcast workflow.

Today I managed to get it all done (h.264, DVD, and FLV) in less than an hour and half (show is about 30 mins), but only used compressor for the DVD (and it took the longest). Everything else was exported directly from FCP or Adobe flv encoder.

I have a question about this as well… My workflow is really sporatic also.

I shoot mainly DVCPRO HD (720 or 1080i) from Hvx200. If I pull in clips from other formats, should I convert it all to ProRes or convert the odd balls to DVCPro? I occasionally have to mix DVCPro with DV also…

As I understand FCP thus far, it is best to have all the footage in the same format to get the best output, correct? And do certain formats compresser faster/cleaner than others in Compressor?

Hmm, just timed a 5 min video to h264 using the cluster (4cores), and it took about 8 minutes in Compressor.
I did a direct export (same format) in FCP, and it took 2 mins.

Wow, I just discovered that you cannot use compressor with cluster on direct export from FCP (i assume this is a ref file). It will not work (at least not on my 8 core) I found an article that Apple knows about about it, and the solution is to render a QT file from FCP, then import into Compressor.
