I’m buying a new MacPro to replace my 5 year old G5. I heard the new processors don’t play well with FCP or ProTools. Looking @ a dual 2.66 with 8GB ram and 1gig video mem. Any suggestions/input would be greatly appreciated.

Don’t know about Pro Tools, but FCS runs great on the new machines.

Not sure about ProTools, but don’t play well with FCP? Where did you hear that? False rumor is what that is. But, not sure about ProTools…that one could be true.

    Where? It’s false.

As for your system, the fastest machine you can afford with a minimum 8GB RAM.

I suppose it IS a false rumor, I was told that from a EX boss who has no idea. I’m trying not to break the $6K price point. Moreover, would a Blackmagic Studio card work nicely with it on a internal RAID? I’m not going to put in a new SCSI card in.
    Thanks for the input.

I don’t know of any video cards that have any issues with storage cards. You just have to make sure you install both cards in the proper slots as recommended by the manufacturers.

Also, if you plan to use Color, go with an ATI card, not nVidia.

    Tell this to your boss:

This thing a monster with FCP.

    It really really really….goes.

I know FCP and compressor were a little tricky to get the 8 cores all working, but with new version of FCP, I think they fixed all that…

you are over your head, aren’t you ? Better get some support from a dealer. No one uses SCSI anymore. The Decklink Studio is $695, and has all the anlaog and SDI/HD-SDI inputs outputs on it. What resolution will you work at ? Because that will determine what disk drives you will purchase. If you are working with DV, standard def, or compressed HD, the internal drives in your new MAC will work ok if you RAID them together (you don’t need the silly apple RAID card to do this). No one can give you a straight answer on weather the internal RAID will work until you say what resolution you are expecting to work at with your media.
