really?
I’m not having any issues with fcp 6.03 and compressor virtual clustering on my nehalem systems.
Pro-Tools HD 8 works just fine by the way.

The clusters crap out all the time on our systems so we don’t use them anymore. We use Telestream Episode Pro for anything that requires the clusters.

August 12, 2009 at 12:14 amI’ve read that from you before Walter, and I’m sorry to hear you had so much trouble with it.
I will admit one of our systems out of the blue stopped working on clustering and I had to
do a trick or 2 to get it working again, but otherwise its works great for me. -

Nothing to be sorry about. We got it to work on and off using a few of the tricks, especially from Jeremy, but then it was just so unreliable, I gave up. Just moved on to Telestream and it works.

September 30, 2009 at 2:34 amHello.
Just wondering if you got the answer you wanted to your question? I’m kind of in the same situation. Essentially when it comes down to it, the issue is what processor(s) and what graphics card to choose. There was one opinion in the thread that said you should choose the ATI graphic card “for colour”. I wish the author of that opinion could have explained a little more about what he meant. It what way does the standard NVIDIA card not work well with colour? How will one suffer if he chooses the NVIDIA? As for processor speed, what I take from the thread of response to your question was that it depends on whether you are going to work with compressed or uncompressed HD. I wish the author of this opinion could have suggested the processor(s) he recommend for each. In my case I will be working with compressed.
I write this hoping that you might be able to tell me what you’ve concluded/purchased. I also write hoping that some of those who answered you might read this and be able to give me an answer to the questions I’ve just raised. I find I really have to depend a lot on these fora for advice. Maybe the Mac salesmen are smarter where you live. But right here I’ve been striking out on most of my questions.
Good luck.

September 30, 2009 at 6:09 amEverybody has a opinion here but here is what I did. I bought the new new dual 2.26 with the ATI card and 12GB RAM. I purchased it from Tekserve on 23rd and 7th, I highly reccomend them, look them up. Also I had them put in a extra FW card so the deck and drives would be on 2 different buses. I threw 3.5TB of internal storage in there also, I noticed that even with G-Raids, having a external hooked up even when not using it slows down the Mac, so go internal if you can. I work with uncompressed DVCPRO 50HD and the monster doesn’t even blink, I tried to make cry by having a motion, FCP and Compressor export on different drives, it maxxed out 8GB RAM in activity monitor. The new Macs might have slower speeds but they are actually faster, 16 cores man. FCP7 and Avid Media Composer load/work like a champ, render times are almost non existent. It ingests P2 media like a champ. Color opens up my proj files likkity split. The whole deal without the extra drives it was around $3950. It was a extra $1K for the 2.66 model, I don’t regret not buying it, I’m really happy with my purchase decision. Also, good luck getting a real answer from anyone at the Mac store, they are more interested in selling iPods and iPhones.
