    Hey John,
I actually haven’t done a Blu-ray archive in awhile. Really only use it to backup personal portfolio junk. I store most of my stuff now online using Amazon Glacier. Can setup scripts and junk to do it for me. Love it, and it’s cheap.

I think I’m gonna attempt to go this route. I’ve always wanted to get into 3D, and this seems like a decent jump off point.

Any tutorial suggestions for getting started (vids, books, blog, etc?)

Thank you all for your info. It has been invaluable!!

What is everyone’s take on Blender 3D? I’m just starting the 3D stuff and dont use it often.

It seems like I can find plenty of vids and such to walk me through a simple flythrough, and with the object websites mentioned, it should be pretty easy…

    Thoughts?

Please don’t stone – I’ve been using Blu-ray burner. Cost has come down, and with 50 gb (double sided) of storage, it’s a pretty cost effective solution. I’m not archiving for decades, just a year or two at most, so it works pretty well for us. Most of my projects will fit on a couple discs or even one depending on the amount of shooting…

We are also looking at the Panasonic HPX-500.

Can I ask if anyone has used these? I have the HVX200, and love it, so I’m already voting on the HPX 500.

** Just an fyi, I DO PLAN ON TRYING TO DO A “SHOOTOUT” **

Now, What’s your opinions of the HPX-500? Likes, dislikes?

And Bob, thanks for your offer! I am going to press the “powers that be” to at least get us a shootout. This is a lot of money to just fart around with.

When I get the ok, I may give ya a shout.

    Thanks again!

Sorry if I got heated, but we’re just under a very short timeline. So short, that I’m not entirely sure I can do a shootout. I’m trying to at least get a visit location, and gathering much more information before we decide.

I appreciate very much everyone’s input. I was just a little annoyed that the first response was on how stupid I am. I think that was uncalled for. I was honestly just asking for advice.

As for the validity of Creative Cow, I think this is one of the best places to get information on our industry on the net. Now, I’m not going to base my entire decision on feedback from here, but I do want to get some real industry experience on these products. Can you blame me?

Please forgive my shortcomings, I’m under enourmous pressure to get it done in a very short amount of time.

Wow. That’s helpful. I want a demo, but we’re running short on time.

    Anyone have any real help?
