you can mask things with an alpha by setting the layer that is doing the masking to be a alpha track matte…i’m still not sure exactly how these screens are being composited into your buildings…

  • Apple has seemed to corner the market in reflections…when I do a reflection,I simply precomp my footage, and add a flipped version, possibly a ramp as a luma matte to give it that “fade away” look…

go find a girlfriend, the gf option has more short term rewards (haha)…

but if you’re gonna do the video (for some reason it’s the option i’d choose, but my personal life is another story), i’d say make the walls of your buidling in a 2d comp with the video, then bring the walls into a new comp, make them into 3d buildings, and fly the camera through…this will eliminate some headache later with what is where in 3d space…if it is supposed to be on the same plane, make it into the same comp…

    hope that helps

do you have a need to buy the machine (besides learning purposes)…do you have a job(s) to cover a good chunk of the machine’s cost? if not, I’d hold off…everything I’ve ever bought without it being needed/paid for has been a bit of a waste in my mind…

but if you’re dead set on getting a machine now, either platform is great…windows, intel core 2 duos are smokin, wait till cs3 for the mac, and 4gb of memory should suffice (I have 4 in my machine, 3 for AE, 1 for everything else hehe)…

I believe some of the warp effects that come with ae will do the effect, possibly a little bit of an echo…it looks like a bit of blur, ripple confined to behind the bullet…the sapphire pack pf plugines will help if you got them (but don’t think just by going and getting them will make it look right with one click, either using a built in or 3rd party plug will take some time to get right)

thickness isn’t the problem, the whole graphic itself shakes (not just the thinnest lines…and my initial renders were straignt, animation codec, mil of colors+…can you import image sequences into avid?

render your comp to a tiff sequence…that way you can find the frame it crashes on and render just that frame to the end…reassemble in ae and re-render to a .mov file (the rerender should go fast)
