yeah, im not really looking for anytype of balanced look, its the nature of these rock and roll docs that are shot on all sorts of formats, was just wondering if anyone had any cool tricks! heck, half the footage was shot by the band themselves!

if it works anything like DV….you can’t get timecode that way.

i don’t know much of anything…but, unless its a computer monitor, i think light is light, it doesnt pulse, unless its a lcd, or a screen or something?

you should capture the 60i stuff as 60i….cause its great for slow-mo’s
in fact, thats pretty much the reason the new canon cams have it….for the slowmo..
watch once upon a time in mexico….it jumps fro 24pland to 601 gross video land sometimes…cause the 60i stuff was intended for slow-mo’s but they changed there minds in post!!

make your cuts, highlight them, and hit delete, the one on top of the arrow keyes, it’ll cut out the material and scoot your timeline down to the first point.

well, use that file you captured, not the compressed to all hell one, and bring that into TOAST to make a videocd.

its totally perspective. i have the most barebones system known to man. cost me about 5 grand total.
i have a dual 1.8 g5, 2 gigs of ram, a 256mb video card
6 firewire drives, and 2 old monitors. a dsr-20 deck i have on extended loan, and a pair of cambridge soundworks speakers.
honestly, i do more editing these days on my ibook than my g5, its portable, and it works just as well for dv (any collor correction, etc, i do on the g5.) for a person who just spent 1400 bucks on an ibook, that is totally capable of editing, 100 dollars is an expense, especially for a software program that may be used once or twice.
i know people who edit professionally with imovie. (im not saying they are any good, lol) its just that the times have changed, and yeah, things are getting cheaper. and if you think about it, 100 dollars for a program that will let my mac encode windows media, i’d rather buy a cheap win box, and the encoding there….
that said, i have flip and it works great, lol. (i didnt pay for it though, my office did, lol) i wanted a pc.

if it were me,
i’d capture the dvd into final cut pro
trim the heads and tails so its nice and neat
and then use quicktime pro or squeeze or equivalent to compress it down to web size, then use toast to put on a cd.
you can easily jack your dvd player through your firewire deck, and capture that way….just make sure yo change fcp to non-controlable device.
