exactly, i hate having to convert files that i KNOW i am going to dump, i am a PIX editor, not a sound editor. I want to use mp3 files in my timeline, so i can do TEMP audio, and not spend any of my time, rendering mp3 files to aiff, or buying cds that i already have, or having PRODUCTION buy an cd’s. it saves time and money, if the produciton in the sound edit wants to buy a song, its up to them. they have my temp tracks, thats enough for me.

its annoying, and there is no reason for it not to work. it also angers me that apple doesnt let you use there itunes downloads in the timeline. if im working with a director that wants to try out a song that i dont have, or dont have time to drive to the local cd store, we “could” just simply download it and throw it in, and give it a whirl all for a dollar. (then of course if he likes it, he can go through the rigamaroll of getting the rights)

by the way, most people that i have encountered, can’t tell the difference between aiff audio, or an mp3. the head of NBC when he okay’d the pilot for out of context, a. couldnt hear that i ripped the music and effects from kill bill, or b. couldnt tell that i ripped them tom mp3 193khz, lol.

i usually get those when there is an “error” in capturing…sometimes they work fine in FCP/QT, sometimes they are messed up and won’t open.

i shall ahve to try that, i just usually find myself goign thru my itunes for my temp music, making playlists, and batch-converting from there, so i get all these duplicates that take up space!

but dude, re-rendering them always makes my itunes a MESS!!!!

if vegas video can do it, so can FCP!

and if your already converting an MP3 to AIFF, then the loss in quality is already there, sooooo.

i agree that mp3 files are usually pretty poor audio files, and re-rendering them to AIFFS is annoying.

when i used vegas video, i never had an issue mixing anything in the timeline, whether it was audio of different compresions, framerates, heck, i even used an MPEG1 video file, live in the timeline, with all my dv material once.

it also annoys me that apple can’t figure out how to allow me to see the audio waves, while i edit, without redrawing them all the time. please fix that, its a great help to us editors, to actually SEE the audio waves as i cut!!!

or jsut do what i do….

compress it to make it look a little crappy, that way its unusablke to them

i had an issue a few years back, i was working that way, and edited a trailer for a horror movie.

towards the end of the project, they told me they were unhappy with the edits, and wanted to work with someone else.

then, they refused to pay me the full amount.

i later found a very similar version to my trailer online, it was re-edited, but a lot of my ideas remained the same.

so yeah, if the client wants updates, i usually make them come into my edit bay, or i send them a VHS with timecode on it, or i compress the heck out of it, and make it unusable, but viewable.

did he reinstall with anything plugged into the firewire ports…..that messed u p the install for me, and i had to re-install fresh without anything plugged into the usb or firewire ports…

did u just re-install tiger?

if u did, and kept any firewire devices, hard drives, etc, plugged in…

you may need to re-instal!
