Thanks for the advice. So X can’t natively handle P2, it will always transcode no matter what?

With regards to the other issue, what I’m doing is right click/Import Media then navigating to the folder where I have my P2 card saved (in this case ‘Card 01’), selecting the Card 01 folder and hitting Import. Some of the clips import and transcode, whereas other clips during the same import will come in as though they were coming straight from the P2 card itself, with X showing a little camera icon on the thumbnail to highlight it as such. I then have to go File/Import/Reimport Media in order for X to transcode those clips. If I don’t do this, the next time I open up X all the clips with the little camera icon on the thumbnail are offline and even though I go to File/Relink Media the relink dialogue box shows nothing to relink. The only way I can get the clips to relink is to do step 01 again and import the entire P2 card all over again. Obviously this is a pain! Does this make sense?

Once the products hits store shelves it’s locked. It is what it is. A new version will come out and users can either pay to upgrade or not pay and keep using what they already have.

Not that I’m a fan of CC but one of the up sides seems to be the addition of new features on a regular basis without the need to upgrade. Premiere’s updates are coming quite often and some certainly worthy of a .0 or new version release (round-tripping to Speedgrade for example).

In terms of the survey the conclusions you can draw from it are definitely limited given the results come from pretty much a single user base (as Dugdale states), however the DSLR market would surely be somewhere Apple would be looking to compete in with FCPX, and compared to Premiere it didn’t seem to be doing too well. I fully agree though that all those CS6 users have to go somewhere and it very well may not be to CC, so the same survey a year or two from now will be interesting.

Yeah I’ve read a couple of articles where Volvo claim the stunt is real and JCVD was attached to safety wires to ensure he wouldn’t fall, with small platforms mounted on the two mirrors to assist with stability. The trucks going in reverse is (apparently) real too and designed (as Bill points out) to further showcase the Volvos smooth steering, due to the increased difficulty of reversing. The most impressive thing I read about it was that they only had a 15 minute window to shoot in as the sun was rising (or setting maybe, I can’t remember which). Then the whole thing was done in one take. Even if they’re not being entirely truthful about it’s authenticity it’s still an excellent piece of film, and a very good idea too. FWIW though Jackie Chan would have done this for real with no wires back in the day.

I assumed that the import iMovie option was to further encourage the transition to X for the more consumer/enthusiast type customers, so they can still open the projects they started in iMovie even after they decide they want something a bit more professional and move to X.

Unfortunately I don’t have any control over this production, I just have to deal with the footage I’ve been given. I agree completely though, lighting is the key to image quality pretty much.

Yeah that makes sense, thanks for your advice Warren. On another note – The footage I’m working with at the moment has a lot of noise in the shadows (there were a lot of night shoots), is there any process or filters you can recommend for minimizing this?

Ah OK, so I guess because the extra information is available in colour correction you are able to achieve ‘better looking’ results, or at least have more options in terms of the looks you can create.
