Hi Carsten,

In regards to the way audio works on the X timeline, although I do like how clips move out of the way when you drag other clips into them, I find that once I have several layers of audio down, the timeline becomes very messy and it is not as easy to see where clips are and what they are. In FCP7 for example, I can group all my SFX onto 4 designated tracks and therefore know at a glance where they are (I guess Roles will help with organisation, but not as well in my opinion).

In addition I find it awkward that primary audio is embedded into the video clips when other audio is not, and if I wish to disconnect primary audio I cannot reconnect it afterwards. I also find adding audio transitions rather annoying. But I do like having the fader handles on each clip. I suppose I just prefer track based editing when it comes to the audio side of things.

Perhaps I’m being to premature in switching from FCP and the title of this thread ‘why wait for X to evolve?’ is a genuine question. If people can see things I cannot, or have a different reasoning, I would love to hear what those are. How come you like the audio in X so much?

Thanks for that. The 2410 is a little out of my price range (around £400). I was looking at the LG W2486 which is also 24 inch. What do you think of this?

I just found First Cuts so took a look and it seems closer to what I was looking for than muvee Reveal. I have absolutely no intention of utilizing Reveal in a professional capacity and you’re right, for real editing it is rubbish. In fact I wouldn’t even refer to it as an editing package, more of a novel way of producing slideshows.
When I was asked about automated editing I was pretty sure that it didn’t exist but I was asked to look so thanks for your help.

Specifically what I was asked to do is find a way of editing together multi-camera footage of sporting events in the most efficient manner possible. I know about the multiclip feature in FCP so I was looking for a separate piece of software that might be able to complement the process somehow, perhaps for cutting short 30 second intro sequences to music that I could then import onto my timeline.

On another note, could you recommend a website or retailer that produces high quality FCP/Motion templates for use in sporting films?

WALTER – My work around was, as you suggested, to create my own title safe. I was just hoping FCP would have such an option as standard. I know that Avid does. Any ideas why FCP hasn’t included this?

Hi David,

Thanks for bit-rate advice, will do some tests asap.

Not sure what brand of DVD I’m using as my boss purchases them and they have no markings either on the disc or the packaging. Is there a particular brand that you favour? What should I be looking for in a good DVD? When buying personally I go for DVD-R as I was under the impression it is more compatible than the others.

I am considering the switch from DVCPROHD to ProRes. What problems does Colour have with DVCPROHD?

Hi, I also have a huge problem with Motion in that there is almost none when it comes to navigating around the interface, let alone rendering. Simply scrubbing through footage on the timeline stalls the program which makes using it almost impossible. I’m running Motion 3 on a G5 with a 2 GHz processor, 3.5 GB of memory, and an ATI Radeon X800 XT graphics card. According to Apple’s website this system falls well within the recomended requirements to run the program. I havn’t had any trouble moving footage between Motion and Final Cut (as other posts have indicated) however Motion is so slow it is virtually redundent which is a real shame because what i have managed to do with it has been very encouraging. Any suggestions or do we have to wait for an update?
