June 20, 2007 at 2:56 pmI haven’t done it yet, but supposedly there are settings either in the Log and Transfer window (that’s what it’s called in FCP 6, right?) or in the preferences where you can tell final cut to transcode media coming from P2, XDCAM, or even REDCODE (soon) to ProRes422 as it pulls it in. You shouldn’t have to pull it all in natively and then media manage or batch export it all. However, there’s not much benifit for using ProRes422 in place of DVCPRO HD – I think it actually takes up more space, and you don’t gain any quality. ProRes422 is more for economizing Uncompressed formats.

June 20, 2007 at 3:13 pmYou want to use 59.94 as a frame rate. 60 is not supported by any deck I’m aware of. The advantage of encoding from DVCPROHD to ProRes would be if your doing a lot of color correction or graphics, both will benefit from ProRes’s 10bit color and full 1920 frame size.

ALL panasonic decks support 60.0
we use 59.94 mainly so we can have realtime downconversion to SD.
however to get 60.0 on a deck the camera needs to be configured that to output/ capture a 60hrz signal.for that reason IN NORTH AMERICA we assume that
60 = 59.94
24 = 23.98gary adcock
