Reorderable? To what purpose? The track orders determine the layering for compositing. How would being able to reorder them help? Interested to hear how this works for you.

I couldn’t really pin down how this would help me, although it definitely falls into the ‘why can’t I alter EVERYTHING on this GUI’ complaint. Again, love to hear the reasoning, as I have never seen it used.

This can be achieved very easily in Quick Time player, although I’m sure having it within FCP would be a little nicer.

Sensible slomo implementation (maybe even optical flow),”Well, we got FCServer, remains to be seen if the weak media manager is improved, but it seems very likely it has in some way. Optical flow is given specific mention within FCS – so we’re getting there.
Not sure what you mean by ‘individual track capabilities’ but I totally agree about the 3d DVE. Sure, Motion does it, but I prefer to stay in the app for some tasks, including this one.
Still, surely we all got most of what we wanted, didn’t we?

Umm. Well….
Of course, I’ve never done this – nor had anyone I know. But, if I was buying a laptop on the states, and I took it out of the box, and put it in a laptop bag and carried it back, what would happen? Or if I bought a couple of Mac Pros, put them in big Peli cases and checked them on as luggage? I guess we’ll never know.
Mac laptops have worldwide warrantee support, and AJA support is best in the states anyway, so I have no qualms with US purchases. In actual fact, the MBP I currently use was purchased in the UK, as I needed custom options on it that I could not buy over the counter in the US.

Interesting comment, but the ‘out of memory’ error does NOT relate to hard drive space, but system memory, although it’s not either to do with a lack of RAM. More likely, it seems like some sort of ‘divide by zero’ error where bad code tries to force the system to perform an illegal function.

Personally, the one tool I wish I could have is the AVID plug-in Marquee for generating extruded 3d text… Wish wish wish.

Whilst I hate to add another option to your list, the diamond keyer that is built into Combustion is exceptional, and I’ve tried most of them. recently a colleague had to key greenscreen on a footballer wearing a partly green shirt. To his amazement, he was able to achieve almost all of the key without additional mattes. It’s really smart keyer that came down from Smoke I believe, and as a part of Combustion is practically worth the price of the entire app alone. Clean, intelligent, quick.

Forgive me if you are FAR beyond this answer, but this question/problem is asked very often on this forum.
I hope you are viewing these rendered stills moves on an external monitor, as the canvas itself DOES NOT show you the move at full quality, even once it has been rendered. Only viewing it via an external video source, whether via firewire or video card, will show you what your move is really like. Mostly, in the canvas they just look horrible.
Of course, using sensible sizes to still etc. helps as well.
As I said, apologies if these are baby steps, but….

Usually this is as a result of a corrupted project, render or media file.
When this happens, ensure you have a back-up project file in case it becomes terminal – sometimes it can cause a project to become unopenable. Usually, as a precaution, I revert to an autosaved version of the project until the behavior does not re-occur.
You can try replacing or even recapturing the original media in the clip you have a problem with. In my experience, more often it is the render file or (more often) the project file that causes the problem.
ALWAYS use autosave, and if you get a sniff of ‘out of memory’ go back a version or two. Usually I find that is enough to solve the problem. If the project fails to open because of this fault, open FCP by browsing to the autosave folder and clicking on the last autosaved version that works…

You’ll find that renders sometimes linger on the timeline in FCP5. Another example is copying a clip that had a transition on it (but not copying the transition itself) then pasting it elsewhere. The (for example) dissolve that was originally happening still appears on the end of the clip until it is re-rendered, if the clip itself required rendering, and has been pasted with the render still in effect. Make sense?
Sometimes, I’ll turn a filter on and off just to force a re-render to get around these ghost renders – just as a workaround.
Hopefully a ‘bug’ gone in FCP6…
