“Ghost” clip in FCP project
Hi gang,
Working on a project and I have this one little video clip that appears on the same point of the timeline no matter what I do. The kicker is, it’s totally invisible. It must be a leftover, cache type thing.
All my video tracks are set to be visible, and I even tried deleting the actual source file to the clip that was appearing. No dice.
Someone told me to “trash my preferences,” but I haven’t been able to figure out how to do that (and I’m leery of messing up my project).
I have version 5.1.4.
Any advice?

Thanks for the link! I tried doing that – cleared out my user preferences, and I’m still seeing the clip.
Any other ideas, short of reinstalling the program?

I think this is a render file gone bad, not your prefs gone bad. Go to the Render Manager in the Tools drop down and delete the render files and rerender that timeline. That should fix your issue.

You’ll find that renders sometimes linger on the timeline in FCP5. Another example is copying a clip that had a transition on it (but not copying the transition itself) then pasting it elsewhere. The (for example) dissolve that was originally happening still appears on the end of the clip until it is re-rendered, if the clip itself required rendering, and has been pasted with the render still in effect. Make sense?
Sometimes, I’ll turn a filter on and off just to force a re-render to get around these ghost renders – just as a workaround.
Hopefully a ‘bug’ gone in FCP6…

Got a problem on a timeline. Need your expertise.
im not sure if its the rendering process that is the problem. but it when I insert a clip in a certain timeline, there seems to appear another clip of 29frames and then it goes back to show the clip i inserted. but when i remove the video clip and go over that specific timeline, i could not view the 29-frame clip. Its just blank.
And when i preview the clip i was planning to insert in a different time, i could view the entire clip without the 29-frame clip being played.Thanks for all the help.
