Hong Kong? Oh no – had people out at the Rugby sevens, could have stocked up! Too soon for OctoMacs and IO-HDs….
Nice info.

Mmmm – Gumbo.
Stella? Over here they call that “wifebeater”. Less said the better. Please note that all the beers you mention are not from the UK – although I prefer them in general to our stuff. And your beers (not the local micro stuff) is universally awful. IMHO.

Apple make some specific claims about ProRes using all available cores. See above post.

Whilst you’re at it Walter (and I know you have nothing better to do) any input you can get from suppliers about set-ups to use with ProRes and IO-HD’s in the field (MBPs etc.) would be appreciated. Any new product out there? New ExpressCard options?

Actually, every so often, Apple do readjust the European prices to sort-of match. It’s just swung so far off again, that my boss is now considering taking his wife to New York for a short break, just so he can pick up a couple of Mac Pros and AJA cards etc. with the savings. With AJA products we always speak to the USA support people anyway, so this is usually a good way to buy kit for us. Your loss, European distributors…

By the way – I’m not endorsing all of the inaccuracies and vague terms in this article – it’s clearly not written by a video pro.

Perhaps during the bit explaining about video podcasts, as opposed to plain ol’ audio podcasts ;.)

There’s no question that this is a game-changer. In one stroke they dealt with all of the major complaints with FCS – Mixed timelines, proper storage, hardware solution, etc. etc. etc.
I expect a few things to be a disappointment when we get to play with them – and for sure there will be a few stability issues, but – WOW. Really, I’ve been usinf FCP since v.1 and this is without doubt the most exciting set of announcements in the product’s history.
I’m really a sceptical old curmudgeon when it comes to Apple software/hardware realeases, but I can’t help but be excited – especially as we held off purchasing two new 8-core systems awaiting this hardware release. Hah.
Now I need to know if I should hold off buying a couple of AJA Kona cards…. That’s better, something to worry about…

[uncle steve] “I just can’t double-click or it opens the source sequence. “
Absolutely – that’s what I said – you can control click on it to get it into the viewer – not the most intuitive bit of the FCP interface…
