Storage at NAB? Walter or anyone?
Posted by Steven Gonzales on April 18, 2007 at 7:56 pmWalter, I remember you had some troubles with your Cal-Digit drives, so I expect you were looking at drive subsystems at NAB.
I know a production company about to invest in some drives, so any advice would be great.
They going to be operating at the high data rates, so what are the front running drive systems?
Thanks.

April 18, 2007 at 8:00 pmWhilst you’re at it Walter (and I know you have nothing better to do) any input you can get from suppliers about set-ups to use with ProRes and IO-HD’s in the field (MBPs etc.) would be appreciated. Any new product out there? New ExpressCard options?

We are most likely going with a Ciprico array, though we were running a DV Serve Comet 2K on the Kona 3 2K workstation I was demo’ing and it was very very fast. 2K files were running 291MB/s and I had no problems scrubbing the timeline and the unit never hiccuped in the two days I was running the workstation.
A fellow artist who was demo’ing with me at that station said he has one and has finished two films with it with no issues. So I’m going to be looking at that unit along with the Cipricos.
