Based on how they look on the canvas on your computer screen? Have you used log and transfer and imported them as ProRes? Is the timeline native to your footage (no coloured bars?) If yes to all, note that the canvas IS NOT full quality for playback (even less so with the RT settings not set to full, which they may be). You can only see full quality on an external video monitor, connected via the camera/deck or capture/playback card.
Unfortunately, as AVCHD cameras replace DV/HDV cameras, the ability to do this via the camera is lost, hence this question being asked numerous times here.

Assuming you’ve done a straight export from FCP (not sure why you’d use Compressor), and keeping the export as DV video. Otherwise, are you accidentally exporting as an H.264 file with compression? You can check the details for the video in QT player on the inspector – post them here.
Otherwise, the simplest solution is not having the ‘high quality’ box ticked in the QT preferences.

Accustomed as I am to the traditional ‘speculative’ post ribbing here, it does seem like a pretty stupid time to buy a Mac Pro. Clearly, updated machines will be out in the next few months, and I would recommend anyone wait at the moment.
No one has a crystal ball, especially with Apple releases, but well…

Unfortunately the plug-in doesn’t support my 550D yet. And I did notice some ropey moments in a quick 720p50 test I did. It certainly lowers the quality from 1080p considerably.

Both types of media require the original folder structure on the CF cards or drive used. If you have consolidated the media only onto another drive, you may not be able to use log and transfer. There is pretty good documentation with RED (the whitepaper included with the FCS installer) and on Canon’s website (I think).

Shane – not to confuse the (always excellent) stock answers, but have you considered including Mpeg Streamclip as an option for transferring DSLR footage. Not only is it simpler to setup for typical DLSR users, it’s also quicker than compressor to convert. The batching process is child’s play as well. I think some people are put off by Compressor.

I’ve just purchased a 550D (T2i in the US) and look forward to the Canon plugin supporting it, but Compressor and MPEG Streamclip are fine for now. Believe me, it’s worth a little hassle. EX1 level low light shooting, very sharp footage. Totally broadcastable after transferring. Identical to the 7D video for half the money… (PS – I know of several promos done for the BBC on 7Ds on the sly, as officially the BBC and other don’t accept 7D footage.) Great fun.

As I did not do the research myself I have no idea if it’s true – although I don’t see a hell of a lot of PCs for sale over $1000, so maybe. I think “very misleading” is a little presumptuous.
