Forgive me, Justin, but are you suggesting you have been importing media into a project, then disconnecting a drive, connecting another one, and importing more media – and so on?
That’s bonafide crazy. As others have said here, bare RAID enclosures cost very little, and will solve all your problems – or just buy a big, single firewire drive (4Tb, or even 2Tb for around $150) and transfer ALL your media to the single drive and re-link it.
And in answer to your question about ‘Planet Earth’, yes they had a big disk array. And they worked in individual episodes, each with it’s own media. If you can split your own project into sections, maybe you can keep working on your separate drives, but if you’re doing this in any kind of professional capacity, and can’t spring for a cheap RAID, I’d quit now…

It sounds as though you are confusing ‘shutter’ with frame rate. Shutter speed has nothing to do with framerate. You’ve recorded 720p30, not 720p60 by the sounds of it.

Sometimes the effect is more noticeable when using an external video device, like a Kona or Blackmagic card – it’s also worse with some codecs.

Whenever I get this issue (rarer than it used to be) I restore my project from a previous autosave where it wasn’t occuring – and redo my work to that point. In all the times this has happened, this has always fixed it.
In my experience this has nothing to do with ‘memory’ – it’s corruption. Whether that be project, render or media. If it’s the last one (it never has been for me) I guess you’ll see the problem re-occur at the same point each time.

This is a well known gamma issue with quicktime that has plagued FCP for years. Hopefully this will be resolved either with the Colorsync feature in FCP, or more likely when they finally kill QT and replace it with AV Foundation. Tomorrow would not be soon enough….

Just use the 1080i50 ProRes setup – if you use a video card, there will also be a specific one for that. Otherwise it will be in the sequence settings labelled as something like “ProRes 422[HQ/LT/blank] 1920 x 1080 50i 48 Khz” – obviously use whichever flavour of ProRes you are importing.
If you’re still unclear, drop some of the transferred footage to a BLANK timeline, and click ‘yes’ on the ‘match timeline to footage’ dialogue box. Then copy down the sequence settings and make a new preset and easy setup for future use.
