Have you tried clicking the Collapse Transformations switch for the precomped layer? (looks like a little sunshine icon) That might do the trick….

September 28, 2011 at 6:05 pm in reply to: Question on tracking.

    I’m confused by your question…. hm…

Mocha is a planar tracker. This means it can simulate how a flat plane would orient itself to match a surface somewhere. (Maybe that’s what you mean by “surface”.) AE’s tracker is more of a point tracker that has some useful tools associated with it (like stabilization).

If you want to get a full 3D track, then you need another tracking solution. I enjoy Syntheyes, but there are other options out there, including PFHoe, PFTrack, and the Foundry has a Camera Tracker that works as a very sophisticated plugin that you can run directly within After Effects.

These 3D trackers will generate a 3D camera and some null objects that simulate the scene you just tracked. At that point, you simply drop in 3D layers and they [usually] will move as though they were “sticking” to the scene. Hope this helps!

September 28, 2011 at 3:49 am in reply to: CS5 unable to “save” – Suggestions?

I doubt a wedding video will be as large as a feature-length project, and those save fine…. A few suggestions: Have you tried using Save As… instead of just Save… ? Have you tried importing your existing project into a clean project and saving from there? Have you tried deleting your PPro preferences?

Just for the fun of it, maybe you can export an XML of your entire project, and then import that into a clean PPro project. Maybe that will “clean” it of whatever’s causing the trouble. Lots of fun! (Not really, I know.) Let us know how it works if you try any of these crazy ideas….

September 27, 2011 at 9:53 pm in reply to: I can only paste sound into track 9

It’s a little weird for a while for anyone coming from FCP-land. I use mono all the time, for what it’s worth. Most of the sound recorded on set is with a shotgun, which produces mono audio. It isn’t until after the edit that the sound mixer gives the mono dialogue a stereo “feel” to it. Even stock sound effects tend to be in mono, from my experience. So for me, only the music tracks tend to need stereo tracks.

Try opening your precomp and enabling motion blur for the layers in there, as well as for the composition.

September 27, 2011 at 3:16 pm in reply to: Error 33::4 How can I fix this?

That’s certainly an odd error to be receiving only on autosaves. Try opening a clean project and importing the auto-saved project (so it’s a folder in the new project). Try pressing Caps Lock while doing this, which might keep AE from doing any calculations so you can identify the corrupt file or composition. Spin around 10 times. Try again.

September 27, 2011 at 3:13 pm in reply to: Turn a SD video into HD.

To go from 640×360 to 1920×1080 is a huge jump in size. If your source files are large enough, you could nest it all in a HD comp, enable the “collapse transformations” switch, and then scale it up 300% and see what happens…. But I’m guessing you’ll have to redo it at the larger size.

Each track in Premiere is set to take either mono audio, or stereo audio, or 5.1 surround-sound audio. So it’s likely that tracks 1-8 are all stereo, and you’re pasting a mono track, or tracks 1-8 are all mono, and you’re pasting a stereo track, etc.

Another possibility is that you need to activate the other tracks (by clicking the left side of the track name in the timeline).

September 27, 2011 at 3:07 pm in reply to: ntsc and pal

The difference between PAL and NTSC footage is framerate and framesize. And you can mix different sizes and rates in a Premiere sequence. (Granted, it may not always give you the best results.) If you want to export as PAL, then be sure to set up your sequence with PAl settings.
