Pre-Composition and Motion Blur
Hi there!
I have a problem concerning pre-compositions which are still giving me headaches sometimes.
I pre-comped a group of layers so that I could use one Alpha-Matte on the whole group and not on every layer individually.
But as a result of the pre-comping I lose the motion blur of the layers probably because the pre-comp itself is not moving.
Is there a way to fix this?

Try opening your precomp and enabling motion blur for the layers in there, as well as for the composition.

Hi Ben,
sadly I’ve already tried that and it didn’t change anything.
It seems that when the layers where placed in the precomp this precomp became completely new footage and not just a container for them (like I wanted). The motion of the precomp itself is now what creates the motion blur and the motion blur of the separate layers is ignored.(what I didn’t want)
Probably there is just some button in there somewhere that enables AE to “dive into” the precomp and get the data from the original layers instead of from the precomp.

Have you tried clicking the Collapse Transformations switch for the precomped layer? (looks like a little sunshine icon) That might do the trick….

Well, shucks. I know there should be an obvious answer here but I’d probably have to see it to know what to do. One option is to DISABLE motion blur across the board, then take your final animation, precomp it, and apply the CC Force Motion Blur filter to the entire thing. That often does the trick….
