FCPX 10.7 is very stable on M chips, not on Intel chips.

Yes, you are going mad, as evidenced by the fact you consciously chose to be a video editor. It happens to us all.

As for your issue, I’ve never seen FCPX do this before. Be sure you have the correct Project selected. Make extra sure.

    I’d recommend the following.

Turn off background rendering in Settings.

Delete all render files for that library (via File menu).

Reboot Mac, relaunch FCPX holding Opt+Cmd to delete prefs (yes, again).

If that doesn’t work, just out of curiosity, go to Movies folder, to FCP Backups folder, open on of those backups to see if the same issue persists.

If so, move FCPX from Applications folder to Trash.

    In App Store reinstall FCPX.

If you still have issues, the Project or Library may be corrupt. Need to open an older backup.

December 13, 2023 at 12:07 pm in reply to: Understanding audio waveforms in FCPX

I am an audio engineer professionally and there is nothing vital missing from FCPX waveforms. Accurate, easy to read, has made editing dialog and finding slate claps (a thing of the past with audio sync), etc, with great ease. I very strongly suggest taking the basic FCPX course from Ripple Training or macProVideo, as FCPX does not work like other NLEs and can’t really be compared that way. Just saying.

Audio meters and wave forms show two different types of data, although related to each other, you need both to work with audio properly.

Can you post an example? I’ve not seen this issue before.

Looks like you’re pointing to the root level of a ExFat formatted drive. You need an Apple formatted drive and point to an actual folder. At least that’s what it looks like. More details needed.

Yep, I noticed that. It didn’t occur for me when I installed macOS, but upgrading to FCPX 10.7.

Yes, for multicam sync with audio, you must give all the shots from the same camera a camera name and angle number so they match each other. Each camera, all its clips need the same camera name and angle number. Or FCPX won’t know they belong together and it’ll get messy.

ProRes 4444 supports alpha channel, and gives great results. Not much else they need to know. As long as they’re working in the same color space that you are. I.E. Rec 709, etc.

Do the bands move downward, from top to bottom, repeatedly?

If so, your camera was not set to the correct shutter speed and angle to compensate for the refresh rate of the projector. Projector screens, computers screens, TV screens, you can get this sort of thing on all of them. So when shooting screens, set the camera so it doesn’t pick them up (shutter speed, etc). There’s lots of tutorials on YT about it. But after the fact, there’s really not much you can do about it in post.
