Sonoma & FCPX 10.7
Posted by Ken Bennett on December 19, 2023 at 8:34 pmAre both upgrades ready for Primetime? Iʻm running Ventura and FCPX 10.6.10 and Iʻm now inbetween projects right now. Any thing I should know about before upgrading?
Thanks.

December 19, 2023 at 8:48 pmI’m just a hobbyist, but I was not having much luck with Ventura and 10.6.10. Wheel of death and issues with some plugins. I had only recently upgraded to Ventura on my m1 studio. So far Sonoma is working better for me.

December 19, 2023 at 9:10 pmOne thing I find VERY helpful is I like to make a carbon copy clone of my
working system before I upgrade a whole macOS.

December 20, 2023 at 2:05 amI haven’t moved to 10.7, yet. I did install macOS 14.1.2. The only slightly negative effect on FCP was many more AU plugins were marked as NG than with Ventura. Otherwise, all’s well.

December 21, 2023 at 11:49 amHi, I am currently having problems with this new combo (FCPX 10.7 + Sonoma 14.2.1) on a MacStudio M2 Ultra and SNS EVO shared storage:
• Library created on shared storage gets corrupted after closing it
• Opening from backup works but backup creation is erratic (sometimes only one initial backup is created even if project/library has been altered by adding shots, events etc…)
• Library created on local drive works but backup creation (local) is also not guaranteed
• Whatever backup Library is created locally works (just pray there is one…)
Other than that FCPX is very responsive on this machine and no playback issues from shared storage

December 27, 2023 at 2:47 pmUpdate to 10.7.1 and 14.1.2 and all should be good. After that, look at hardware issues.
