Under Rahul’s guidance, I first ran as a root user and ran Premiere, magically problem solved. Having proven the fix, I had to create a new admin user, copy over all my documents/personal files, then delete the old user, and use the new user as my default.
Sounds crazy, but that’s what fixed it.
Thank you all,
Barry

To make this problem easier to see, I made a video with my iPhone demonstrating the problem:

July 30, 2016 at 9:48 pm in reply to: Eyedropper Does Not Work in Ultra Key on Premiere Pro CC 2015, V. 10.3.0 (202) Blue FoxThank you, Duke, for responding:
I know that I shot clean, very controlled green screen. So I know that’s not the issue.
My issue is some sort of a software issue:
1.) I drop Ultra Key on the clip.
2.) In the effects controls I select the “eyedropper” tool and select an area of green.
3.) If I just click once, it will not pick up the color, and nothing will happen.
4.) If I click repeatedly, I will get this banding as I described – this part sounds a little bit like the your description, and the background may turn grey of black – or it may go back to just the green screen clip. The basic think here is that it will not pick up the Key.
5.) Not, If I click on the color selector box in the effects control, and try to select the approximate color, Ultra key will pick up the Key, but of course, without the precision., and setting a clean key takes longer.I did not have this problem with the last version of Premiere Pro CC.
I am running EL Capitan, not Maverick.
Rebooting has no effect.
Something is up.Barry O’Brien

May 2, 2016 at 9:55 pm in reply to: Leaving Premiere Pro CC 2015.2 and coming back causes endless “wheel of Death”As I learn more, I’ll be sure to pass it on. I got a great e-mail from Satsi, at AJA Support (I’m running an AJA Kona LHe+ to drive my broadcast monitor.
He suggested that I thow out all my AJA preferences, and that made a difference. I don’t know if that will work with other video drivers, but it’s worth asking.

May 2, 2016 at 7:17 pm in reply to: Leaving Premiere Pro CC 2015.2 and coming back causes endless “wheel of Death”Thank you, Dave, for you comment. I guess the vote is out on El Capitan, right now, but I had other issues (crashing) with Yosemite, that El Capitain eliminated.
I’m not so sure it’s the operating system, per se, that is directly causing this issue. It could be that the preferences need to be tweaked. What’s odd is that it’s triggered by leaving and then coming back to Premiere. While I am editing with Premiere, there is no delays – if I were to say anything, I would say that Premiere is running more smoothly on El Capitain than it was on Yosemite.
Any other suggestions?
Thank you,

I learned a couple of things that may be to use for others on the issue of sticky/jumpy playback and premiere freezing.
One big problem was not where I was looking. I have an AJA Kona LHe+ board that I use to feed picture to my broadcast monitor. On a whim, I contacted AJA Support, and they recommended upgrading the driver to 12.1, which includes the Adobe Plug-in as part of it.
I installed the new driver and Premiere is running much better, and not locking up. If you have a Kona board, you may want to look into that.
But I still have a question. If I turn on the Activity Monitor and watch CPU usage, it will average about 70% CPU usage while a sequence is playing back, but it can jump to over 100% up to 140% to 150%. Is that right? I am wondering if I have a processing bottleneck going on.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your time.

Bob,
By any chance, d`o you have an AJA Kona Board in your computer? I have a AJA Kona LHe+ and the problem that I have was to a great extent eliminated when AJA advised me to upgrade my driver to version 12.1, which is a combined AJA video driver and the Adobe Premiere Pro CC Plug-in.
I still have a couple of issues, but the upgrade to the new V 12.1driver made a huge difference.

I would do the lighting effect in AE and import it back to Premiere.

I contacted AJA Support, and they recommended that I install the new, combined Ver 12 driver and Abobe Premiere Plug in. That eliminated the stuttering and freezing, although I just installed it, so this is just an initial assessment.
I must say that AJA has a great support team. Over the years, they have been wonderfully responsive, and stick with you until the problem is solved.

Did you discover which codec was causing the problem?
