It’s a well-known issue related to the delay in processing that goes on when the video is buffered before being written to tape. It only happens in the progressive modes, and it’s more noticeable in 24P than it is in 30P.
The only real “solution” is to get noise-isolation headphones. The echo is not on the tape or in the camera; the echo is happening because the audio is delayed in the camera by two frames, yet you’re also hearing the audio “live” leaking through your headphones, and it’s the difference between them that makes it sound like an echo. If you have noise-isolation headphones you’ll eliminate the “live” audio leaking in, and therefore the echo will disappear.

On an original DVX100, the slowest you can simulate is 12fps. On the DVX100A you can simulate either 4P or 6P, but not 5P.
To get 4P, put the camera in “slow shutter” mode and select a shutter speed of 1/8, and shoot in 30P mode. The result will be 4 individual frames per second, each exposed for 1/8 of a second (actually 1/7.5). If you want it to play back as actual 4fps, you’d have to speed it up in your NLE to have it play back at 640% of normal speed.
To get 6P, shoot in 24P mode with a 1/12 shutter speed. On playback, run it at 400% of normal speed.

The minimum is 1/2 second, so 15 frames.
No big deal though; just import it into your NLE and tell it to play back at 15x realtime speed; you’ll get exactly one frame per “burst”.

Yes, it’s in a menu called INTERVAL REC — set it to ONE-SHOT and it will record a burst of frames and then stop. Every time you press the remote control it will capture another burst of frames. There’s a menu item called REC TIME that specifies how long each burst lasts.
One note: INTERVAL REC won’t work in 24P mode, you have to be in 30P (or 60i) for it to work.

1920×1080 is the broadcast picture resolution. However, 1920×1080 is not the *recorded* resolution. No camera records 1920×1080, not even the $100,000 CineAlta records 1920×1080. They always record a subsampled image. You have to get up into HDCAM-SR territory before you get to record the full 1920×1080.
The HVX, the FX1, and the Canon XL H1 all record images that are compatible with 1920×1080 displays. They subsample the resolution, but the final image is compatible with a 1920×1080 television.

Okay, here’s what you want to know: yes you can capture straight to an FCP5 computer, without having to use a P2 card at all. If you’re running FCP5, it can capture the HD stream coming down the firewire port. Now, this means of course that you’d have to have a firewire cable plugged into the computer to do this, but yes it can be done.
In addition, the camera has the capability of controlling a firewire hard disk (for the purpose of copying its files onto). So if you did record to P2, you don’t need a computer available to offload the footage; instead you could just plug a hard disk into the camera and have the camera copy the P2 card’s contents onto the hard disk.

I use it because it delivers the motion rendition of film. It’s allowed me to completely replace 16mm for all the productions I would normally have relied on 16mm.
It also delivers a far superior DVD experience. When shot in 24P, edited in a 24P timeline, and output as 24P MPEG-2’s, you can master 24P DVDs which look dramatically superior to interlaced DVDs when played on progressive-capable DVD players to progressive-capable displays.
