I’ve heard Europeans sometimes refer to the Atlantic Ocean as “the pond”, as in “we’re just across the pond from you”… so in that respect I was referring to the Tasman sea as “the gulf”. 🙂

Hey Federico, thanks for posting that — I didn’t want to post a link to the other forum where I first put this, so copying/pasting the whole thing is probably the only way to go.
BUT: please be aware that there should be a big disclaimer on this, saying something on the order of: PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK! This is an unsupported, undocumented “hack”, and there’s no way to know if it can cause any ill effects to the HVX200.
Panasonic tested and certified about a dozen frame rates, and they said at the time that they were going to support as many as possible and still meet their shipping deadline. So these other framerates are, by definition, *untested* and *uncertified*. They may work, or they may not, or they may cause errors on your footage, who knows. So use them at your own risk.
With that said, I’ve shot a bunch of things at 2fps, it’s fast becoming one of my favorite frame rates, and I’ve never noticed any ill effects from it. I did get a few “P2 MICON” errors using some of the other frame rates though.

The P2 Store would be an expensive way to solve the problem if that’s all that it did. But if you plan on using it for its intended purpose, then the fact that it *also* solves the no-slot problem becomes an added bonus!
duel-systems told me that it should be out soon, I’d guess in July sometime.

That’s really, really low. If it’s an offer from a legitimate Panasonic authorized dealer, that would be the lowest I’ve ever seen it. Most places seem to have a floor of about $5400, usually around $5500-$5600.
You can look up if it’s from an authorized dealer on Panasonic’s website; put in the zipcode of the dealer in question. If they don’t come up as an authorized dealer, and they’re offering it for hundreds below what the authorized dealers offer it for, that should be a warning sign to you.

Does not, can not, and will not exist. No cheap little adapter can work. The CardBus adapter requires a full PCI bus, so basically a motherboard, chipset, all sorts of things. None of those little $30 USB adapters will ever work with a P2 card. That’s why the Panasonic adapters are so much more expensive — because they have all the hardware necessary.
I thought such a device would be a great seller too, so I contacted a company that designs something similar and asked them about developing exactly this product. They assured me they could do it, but that they’d need to sell a certain (high) quantity monthly, and the price would need to be $2,000. So I dropped that project… I think the P2 Store is a better idea at that price range, and I think a cheap PC laptop is the by far most cost-efficient way to go. You can get a cheap laptop with a 60GB hard disk for around $400 during holiday weekend sales, and it’ll do a fine job of offloading P2 cards, and as a bonus you can run the P2 Viewer program on it!

That’s the way I’m leaning, towards an MBP and the P2 Store, because not only does the P2 Store do what it does, but it also solves the no-slot-on-MBP problem.
But, to more directly address the question, there’s also an ExpressCard->PCMCIA adapter being developed which should hit the market in the next couple of months, and has been specifically designed to work with P2 cards.

FILM CAM mode = variable frame rates in 720p mode, and syncro-scan shutter works in degrees (that track with the frame rate) rather than a fixed fractional speed.
VIDEO CAM mode = access to pre-record, loop record, interval recording, and one-shot record modes; syncro-scan = fixed fractional speeds.

Yes you could do exactly that. We’ve been using a PC laptop to copy the cards over to FAT32 FW drives, and then edit on the Mac. Works just fine.
Having a $70 card reader instead of a $4,000 deck is one of the advantages of the P2 system. P2 is designed around leveraging cheap, universal, existing computer hardware instead of proprietary video hardware. You can use a $399 PC laptop in the field to offload cards instead of a $2500 slot reader as well.
