If you changed the battery or powered the camera off, that would cause a loss of sync. Or, if you toggle from CAMERA mode to VCR mode, that also causes it. I haven’t checked if using REC CHECK causes it, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it did.

Sounds like fluorescent interference, yes. 1/60 should have removed the flicker too, but if it didn’t, then 1/30 was a fine choice (as long as you were shooting 480p; if you were shooting 480/60i then 1/30 will drop your vertical resolution in half.)

I would certainly suspect the camera’s firewire port of having been blown up. If you hot-swap (unplug/plug while the power is on) to a mac (or other six-pin firewire port) you run the risk of blowing up your firewire port.
Put it in 1394 Device mode, go to PC mode, and see if it shows up on your mac’s desktop. If it does, you can use the camera as a card reader to get at the contents of your cards.
Also, consider that if you’re trying to use bus power to power the firewire drives, that won’t work when connected to the camera; the camera cannot supply firewire bus power.

Yes, you should still be at zero because you’re still in the digital domain. Setup gets added by them when they transfer it to analog.

Exactly. You should never record 7.5% in the digital domain; 7.5% is an analog-only thing. The broadcaster is adding 7.5% to your image, and you’ve already added 7.5% to it, so the result is a double-setup milky-black pastel flat blah image.
You should always shoot, edit, and master at 0% setup. Setup should only ever enter the equation when copying to an analog format, and the analog deck should handle that for you. If mastering back out to P2, to tape, or to DVD you should be at 0% always.

Yes, on the DVX100 there’s an “index” button that will create an invisible mark on the tape at the spot you pressed it. On the 100A and 100B the same capability is there, but the “index” button is replaced by a “user3” button, so you’d have to go into the menus and assign “index” to one of the user buttons in order to be able to execute the “index” feature.
In post you can search for those indexes by using the infrared remote control; it has the ability to do an “index search”.

Has to be the camera operator or someone standing next to the cam who can press the appropriate button.

Discussion continued on DVXUser. I have never heard of any file corruption problems on a PC transfer, ever. Only problem has been when someone hasn’t installed the drivers. But this board, and DVXUser, have many instances of corrupted/glitched frames from Mac transfers. Kevin Railsback even has glitches when not transferring; he puts the card in his Powerbook 17″, plays the file from P2 Log, and can see glitches right then and there, without even having transferred the footage. I’m asking for the community’s help to get to the bottom of this; hopefully we’ll be able to get this resolved soon and deliver a comprehensive bug report to Apple and/or Panasonic (whoever it is who’s created the link in the chain that exhibits the problem).
As far as Apple recommending it, I believe the recommendation comes from Jeff Deveraux. He says it comes from the head of FCP development. I heard it from Michael Wong.

The 1.6 is an excellent lens, but it does vignette. The 2.0 is bigger, heavier, more expensive, vignettes more, and magnifies more. The 1.6 starts vignetting at around 17mm, the 2.0 starts vignetting at about 27mm. Either should do a great job. If you need more magnification, and can afford it, and don’t mind giving up some wide-angle capability, go for the 2.0.
