  • TC Sync Issues….

Posted by Tim Scarpino on November 13, 2006 at 12:51 am

    Greetings all,

Over the weekend, I had a two-DVX100a shoot and sync the TC with the remote control. We shot for nearly five hours and for the most part, everything went well. Unfortunately, on two occassions, the camers lost TC sync. Both times noticed one camera s six seconds ahead of the other.

Now, we were in free run and were stopping the tapes often. I’m at a loss to explain, so I’m hoping someone offer a guess as to what my issue was.

    Thanks,

    Tim Scarpino

Sometimes it just happens unfortunately. This is a good way to sync TC but there’s no way to guarantee it will hold over a long shooting day. Best thing to do is periodically resync. On an average shoot day on my feature I remember the sound mixer syncing with the TC slate a few times every day.

If you changed the battery or powered the camera off, that would cause a loss of sync. Or, if you toggle from CAMERA mode to VCR mode, that also causes it. I haven’t checked if using REC CHECK causes it, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it did.

    Barry,

Thanks for your response! I’m leaning towards the record check mode since that is the only thing of what you mentioned that I would have done. Batteries were good, and I didn’t toggle the VTR/VCR switch during the day.

And since it was about :06 seconds both times, that is about the time it takes to do the rec check.

GOOD to know for the future!

    Cheers,
