Never tried the CitiDisk. I have shied away from it because of multiple unflattering user reports, as well as similar reports from their prior product (the CitiDisk DV/Quickstream DV). You should get some user reports before trusting your footage to any recording device.
Frankly, I think cheaping out on the recording medium is probably the worst place to try to save money. It always boggles my mind to see people trying to save 50 cents on a tape by using an off-brand. All the work you do, all your time and energy and effort and all your expenses and sets and actors and locations and all your props and travel and catering and EVERYTHING that you do, all comes down to one thing: what gets recorded. If it doesn’t get recorded, everything you did is completely wasted.
So I say go with the best possible, most reliable, most trustable recording format you can possibly get.

Fortunately, I’ve never had to have any of my DVXs or my HVX have any sort of service, so I don’t have any firsthand experience with any of them. On the other forum Specialized Communications is a frequent contributor, and they’re an authorized service center; you might try asking them what they think the issue is and if they’ve seen anything like it.
But that’s the closest I’ve come to a service center, so I can’t advise you further on that.

You can change that in the menus, go to SW MODE and look for the option, you can have it be “off” or middle speed.

Assuming they’re all in a line (same distance from the camera), then it seems like it should be a repair issue.
At wide open the depth of field is at its shallowest, so if those people on the left were notably closer to the lens than those on the right, that would make sense as to why they were out of focus, and why stopping down the lens would bring them back into focus.
But it doesn’t look like that was the case, was it? Looks like they were all equally distant from the lens, in the same basic focal plane, and for some bizarre reason the left side is out of focus… which I’ve never seen before, and can’t imagine how that would be occurring unless one of the lens elements was actually misaligned or something. Which is why I think that yes, it’s probably due for a trip to the service department…

The only hard disk recorder on the market today, that works reliably, is the FireStore FS-100. And it lets you record about 200 minutes on its 100GB hard disk.

It scans everything into a 1920×1080 matrix, all processing is done internally at 1920×1080, and then it downconverts to whatever the recording format is.

Those are pretty small so it’s hard to tell. Does it just look like the left 1/3 is soft all the time? Is there something optically wrong with the camera? What about a regular shot in broad daylight — is the left 1/3 still soft?

Line/Mic switch on the front of the camera, probably. People seem to forget about those. If it’s set to LINE, that’d probably explain it.
