    AVC-Intra at 50 megabits is 1440×1080, or 1280 x 720; at 100 megabits it’s 1920 x 1080, or 1280 x 720.

Not in Premiere, but in Vegas I get realtime playback in Red, Yellow or Green mode. Not realtime in Blue mode, but in the other modes it plays back realtime, just drag ‘n’ drop to the timeline and play…

Sounds like you powered down the camera (or ejected the card) before it was finished writing the file. You need to select that clip and use the “repair clip” option.

  • Check the latest version for any updates; Avid just updated XPress Pro HD to allow exporting back to P2 cards, they may have done the same for Newscutter but I’m not sure.

In any case you should be able to “print to video” out the firewire port and capture that data stream onto an HVX200 or other camera by recording the incoming data stream.

There’s probably no technical limitation against it, but it’d involve having to create a new SMPTE standard for transport of AVC-Intra. Might happen someday, probably not soon.

Even so, there’s not a lot of impetus to do it; by the time the AVC-Intra card is out, 32gb cards will be out too (or shortly thereafter). You could have five 32GB cards, and the ability to store 1.6x as much footage as the FireStore could. I think the FireStore’s window of relevance is closing soon.

There’ve been many reports of FCP bugging out the frame rate of the footage. I believe it’s related to having the “remove duplicate frames on import” checkbox clicked, and then importing 720pN footage.

Your original footage is probably fine; you’re probably just running into an FCP bug.

[incredulous13] “How can you offload directly from the camera to a hard drive?”

    1394 Host mode.

[incredulous13] “Second question, how can you setup the camera to act as a P2 reader to go straight into a computer?”

For a Mac, use 1394 Device mode. For a Windows PC, use USB Device mode.

Just look at the footage. Of course it’s “real” HD.

May 19, 2007 at 11:49 pm in reply to: White balance drift

Sometimes you can get the “effect” of white balance drifting (i.e., color cycling) when shooting under fluorescent lights and using a high shutter speed (like 1/250).

Other than that, no, the white balance should not drift if you’re on PRST or A or B.
